Just FYI in case no one has noticed, if you set the ESC to auto lipo (3.0v/cell) often Thunder Power chargers will say you have selected the wrong cell count when you try to charge the depleted battery. I manually set my ESCs to 3.1v /cell but maybe that should be the auto value? Just a thought. ...

It might be a little better for your lipos too.

(edit) BTW, it happens with different brand lipos.

Also, maybe a future release could have auto A123 as well?

Hey, been a while since I have been here. and well I know there is some excelent advice to be found. So I am looking at getting a second plane preferably with ailerons, but not needed. Now I have tried the Tiger Moth 400 from GWS and although I love the look of it, I was not happy with the strength of the model. It was wrecked 3 times in storage, and I did mess up the integrity of the model during construction. i.e. made the battery compartment too big for the weight of the battery.(Tried to get better flight times) So I was thinking of a balsa setup, but again not set on it.

I was wondering if anyone here had any information on this model: http://www.nitroplanes.com/timo32bielar.html Like I said I do like the tiger moth, or any bipe for that matter.

My history with planes have been the firebird freedom, and the easystar. Both of which I have done well with and enjoyed them both. The firebird was mine and the easystar was a friends who let me fly it. i may end up getting a easystar, but would like something both a little more realistic, and a little more aerobatical.

So with all of that said What would be any recomendations.

I just bought a GP 1/3 Pitts ARF (NIB) from a member of our club. I know that the plane has been discontinued for a while, and based upon all the reviews it seems to be a great flyer :)

This will be my first "gasser" and plane of this size in general so I need some help with the engine choice as I wouldn't even know where to start.

Based upon the manufacturer's recommendations one of the suitable engines is a 41CC US Engines. I know that this is yet another discontinued products and that US Engines are no longer in business, however I have another club member selling one of those at a great price. The engine is once again NIB and comes with CDI ignition, mounts, etc. My concern is that the Manufacturer's engine recommendations are usually the bare minimum that will fly the plane, and I am not sure if that's the case here as well.

If that engine (41cc US Engines) is not a good choice (borderline performance) for this plane, what else can you recommend? I am not looking for 3D performance, but like to have just a little bit more power to get me out of trouble here and there....

I am assuming that unless a VERY THICK primer were used that the mold bumps would have to be sanded - wondering if this should be done before or after spraying on the first primer coat?

Also, while I know that this would add some weight to the plane, I am thinking that the reduced drag of having a gloss finish might = the weight of the paint.

What I am really looking for is a super-gloss finish.

Thanks for looking.

Saying that, news this week is that my residency has been nullified !
The Chicago office of USCIS has denied my residency application and I am now here in the USA illegally.
Bought and paid for house.
No credit cards.
All documentation asked for has been supplied.
No criminal convictions.
No problems or incidences with law enforcement.
Married for 2 years to my American wife.
The only delay was with the Affidavit of Support, because of problems with the economy noone felt able to sign. Threatened with deportation we made the official appeal as instructed and through generous donations by friends and yard sales etc were able to meet the filing fee. Then we gained a family members signing of the form when he realised the gravity of the situation. All paperwork returned in the allocated 30 days.
Residency denied.

Currently attempting to gain info from a related messageboard and from friends who have been through the immigration process.

There may be no Storm Runner taking to the skies next year, that may gain valuable data for the scientific community and, help save lives.

The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth exposed after hacker gets proof the AGW lied to invent the AGW story

If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW.
The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; ) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet.

(Hat tip: Watts Up With That <http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/11/19/breaking-news-story-hadley-cru-has-apparently-been-hacked-hundreds-of-files-released/#more-12937>)

When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at Hadley CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential.
As Andrew Bolt <http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/hadley_hacked/> puts it, this scandal could well be “the greatest in modern science”. These alleged emails – supposedly exchanged by some of the most prominent scientists pushing AGW theory – suggest:

Conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal
destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to
disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in
their public claims and much more.

One of the alleged emails has a gentle gloat over the death in 2004 of John L Daly (one of the first climate change sceptics, founder of the Still Waiting For Greenhouse <http://www.john-daly.com/> site),
commenting:

“In an odd way this is cheering news.”

But perhaps the most damaging revelations – the scientific equivalent of the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal – are those concerning the way Warmist scientists may variously have manipulated or suppressed evidence in order to support their cause.

Here are a few tasters. (So far, we can only refer to them as alleged emails because – though Hadley CRU’s director Phil Jones has confirmed the break-in to Ian Wishart at the Briefing Room

<http://briefingroom.typepad.com/the_briefing_room/2009/11/hadleycru-says-leaked-data-is-real.html> – he has yet to fess up to any specific contents.) But if genuine, they suggest dubious practices such as:
*Manipulation of evidence:*

I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps
to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from
1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.

*Private doubts about whether the world really is heating up:*

The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the
moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The CERES data published
in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even
more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is
inadequate.

*Suppression of evidence:*

Can you delete any emails you may have had with Keith re AR4?
Keith will do likewise. He’s not in at the moment – minor family crisis.
Can you also email Gene and get him to do the same? I don’t have his
new email address.
We will be getting Caspar to do likewise.

*Fantasies of violence against prominent Climate Sceptic scientists:*

Next
time I see Pat Michaels at a scientific meeting, I’ll be tempted to beat
the crap out of him. Very tempted.

*Attempts to disguise the inconvenient truth of the Medieval Warm Period (MWP*):

/……Phil and I have recently submitted a paper using about a dozen NH
records that fit this category, and many of which are available
nearly 2K back–I think that trying to adopt a timeframe of 2K,
rather than the usual 1K, addresses a good earlier point that Peck
made w/ regard to the memo, that it would be nice to try to
“contain” the putative “MWP”, even if we don’t yet have a
hemispheric mean reconstruction available that far back…./

And, perhaps most reprehensibly, a long series of communications discussing *how best to squeeze dissenting scientists out of the peer review process*. How, in other words, to create a scientific climate in which anyone who disagrees with AGW can be written off as a crank, whose views do not have a scrap of authority.

“This was the danger of always criticising the skeptics for not
publishing in the “peer-reviewed literature”. Obviously, they found
a solution to that–take over a journal! So what do we do about this?
I think we have to stop considering “Climate Research” as a
legitimate peer-reviewed journal. Perhaps we should encourage our
colleagues in the climate research community to no longer submit to,
or cite papers in, this journal. We would also need to consider what
we tell or request of our more reasonable colleagues who currently
sit on the editorial board…What do others think?”
“I will be emailing the journal to tell them I’m having nothing more
to do with it until they rid themselves of this troublesome
editor.”“It results from this journal having a number of editors.
The responsible one for this is a well-known skeptic in NZ. He has
let a few papers through by Michaels and Gray in the past. I’ve had
words with Hans von Storch about this, but got nowhere. Another
thing to discuss in Nice !”

Hadley CRU has form in this regard
<http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100011716/how-the-global-warming-industry-is-based-on-one-massive-lie/>.

In September – I wrote the story up here as “How the global warming industry is based on a massive lie” – Hadley CRU’s researchers were exposed as having “cherry-picked” data in order to support their untrue claim that global temperatures had risen higher at the end of the 20th century than at any time in the last millenium. Hadley CRU was also the organisation which – in contravention of all acceptable behaviour in the international scientific community – spent years withholding data from researchers it deemed unhelpful to its cause.

This matters because Hadley CRU, established in 1990 by the Met Office, is a government-funded body which is supposed to be a model of rectitude.

Its HadCrut record is one of the four official sources of global temperature data used by the IPCC.

I asked in my title whether this will be the final nail in the coffin of Anthropenic Global Warming. This was wishful thinking, of course. In the run up to Copenhagen, we will see more and more hysterical (and grotesquely exaggerated) stories such as this
<http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/world-on-course-for-catastrophic-6deg-rise-reveal-scientists-1822396.html>
in the Mainstream Media.

And we will see ever-more-virulent campaigns conducted by eco-fascist activists, such as this risible new advertising campaign by Plane Stupid showing CGI polar bears falling from the sky and exploding

<http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/nov/20/polar-bears-plane-stupid-ad>
because kind of, like, man, that’s sort of what happens whenever you take another trip on an aeroplane.

The world is currently cooling; electorates are increasingly reluctant to support eco-policies leading to more oppressive regulation, higher taxes and higher utility bills; the tide is turning against Al Gore’s Anthropogenic Global Warming theory.

The so-called “sceptical” view is now also the majority view.

Unfortunately, we’ve a long, long way to go before the public mood (and scientific truth) is reflected by our policy makers. There are too many vested interests in AGW, with far too much to lose either in terms of reputation or money, for this to end without a bitter fight.

But if the Hadley CRU scandal is true,it’s a blow to the AGW lobby’s credibility which is never likely to recover.

Help! Dynamite DYN4060 Charger

I have a Dynamite DYN4060 AC/DC LiPo Charger. Last week I was charging a battery at the flying field, and I had to run off, so I told my girlfriend what to do when it is done charging. Well, I guess I didn't explain how to turn it off and disconnect the battery very well, and she pulled out the output jacks (red then black) instead of disconnecting the alligator clips on my car battery. She told me the charger started to smoke a bit until she disconnected it from my car battery to shut off the power.

I flew the battery and it was fine. Now when I try to charge the battery, the charger emits an error tone... which kind of sounds like a car alarm or siren... and it's quite clear that it's a tone that means bad things... but I don't know what it means. I've tried searching google and these forums, but haven't found anything mentioning an error tone outside of the manual:

"If the battery voltage is too low, the charger will also emit
the error tone even though the right number of cells has been
selected. Hold the CHARGE button for 2 seconds to enter the
charger into the low voltage charge mode. After 30 seconds the
charger will return to the correct charge mode."

Until yesterday, I have never really read about lipo batteries, and have been pretty ignorant in the way I handle them. I don't have any tools/meters for checking voltage and stuff, but it is quite possible I run the battery too low when I fly. I also have not been using a cell balancer. Anyway, I tried holding down the start button after starting the charge, but it does not switch to the low voltage mode, it simply stops charging and lets me select cell count and charge rate again. So, I'm guessing the charger is toast?

I'm pretty sketchy now about lipo safety, as I live in a condo with my aunt. There is no place I can store a battery without it being within range of flammable things. I have been storing it in my foam plane in a closet with Christmas decorations, wrapping paper, and clothing. I've fallen asleep twice while the battery was charging next to my bed and woke up 8 hours later thinking, oops. I suppose I've been lucky. The best place I have found to store it now is in a small safe, and I put the safe on the tile floor in the bathroom... but of course the walls and shower curtain are flammable.

I feel much more comfortable with glow fuel, and am regretting buying electric planes. I know fuel is dangerous too, but it sure does seem safer to me after reading a bit about lipo batteries. But I just got a 3D Hobby Shop SHP from a guy I fly with, so I've been reading more about electric planes.

My main reason for posting this is to ask if anyone knows what the error tone means?
