This has been attached to the roof of my shed for a while, I wanted to make sure any future 'fliers' had left before removing.

It's incredible when you think of the amount of effort a queen wasp put into making this structure, (no foam, no almost ready made available here, only hard work).

It's a little over 1" at the widest.

Wood working skill at it's finest.

Well guys I told myself I was not going to do this but here it goes.

Yesturday via UPS my 1/3 scale Space Walker arrived. I purchased it from Ronrange here on RCU last Thursday. Thanks Ronrange for fast shipping!!! I stay out of town alot so I had it shipped to the hotel where I am staying. I went to Lowes and bought a sheet of 3/8" BC plywood and some 2X4's to build a transportable table. I moved all the stuff off of the desk in my room and commenced to take it out of the box. This is a die cut kit and not lazer cut so it took a little while to carfully get all the pieces apart. Before I took the pieces apart I labled them for easy ID later on. I also took the smaller pieces and placed then in zip lock baggies for safe keeping. There are a few balsa sheets with parts printed on them and not cut out at all, I decided to wait till I needed those before chopping them up. Most of those pieces go in the stabalizer and virticale fin and not needed right away.

One thing that I found interesting is that the newpaper Sig used to wrap some of the pieces up with, is from the late 80's. I started reading the recomended glue and found that back then they were still useing white glue to put models together or atleast thats what they recommended. I will be using the faster way to put it together, CA glue LOL. I also will be useing a mixture of 5, 10 and 30 minute epoxies. Some of the assembly will require special tools that I have at home and will skip over those steps and do that when I get to go home for a weekend. I forgot to mention that I travel with my Airplane Trailer! That way I have just about everythigng I need for flying, repairing, (if need be) and building!

Ok for equipment. I will be using Hitec 5645MG's on all control serfaces. Hitec 5485's on the throttle and choke. AR 8000 DSMX for a rec and a Hobico LIFE battery. The ignition battery will be a Nimh 4.8. Engine is a BME 58 Extreme with a xoar 23-8 prop. As fo rthe hardware? I will be replaceing some of it. I like to use Robart hinges so I will be making some modifications to accomendate those. I also will be useing ball links instead of clevises and I will also use some heavier control horns than the nylon ones that came with it.

As for the build, I chose a one piece wing. Now your probably asking WHY??? Well I'll tell you. The aluminum joining system wieghs about a pound and I realy don't like the way that it joins togather. It will also speed up the wing build by a couple of days if not a whole week. Another change that I see forthcoming is the position of the elevator servo. The directions have it going next to the rudder pull pull servo in the middle of the fuse with a fiberglass push rod controling it. My thinking is get it to the back of the fuse under the stableizer and control it with a titanium pushrod. To off set the ballance I can always move the rudder servo further forward. By getting rid of the fiberglass push rod I just shaved another 2-3 oz's. I am also looking at using some carbon fiber in the tail section in-lu-of the balsa stingers that are supplied. this will add streanth and lighten it up a bit. I will also be changing out the spring steel tail wheel assembly with a carbon fiber to also reduce the weight.

Enough for now. I have posted some pictures of day 1 below. I hope you folks enjoy my build and feel free to chime in with suggestions. Lastly, please ignore my spelling I know it's not the greatest but it's pretty close LOL.

I found an old project burried in my wood pile and would like to see it it's worth finishing.

I downloaded the plans here on RCG about 2 yrs ago (or longer) but I no longer have the planes name on any of the plan sheets I found with it.

The WS is 40" and the pod length is just over 12"
The boom is 28" - but knowing me - I could have cut part off for another project so I dont know if its the correct length.

Any help in ID'ing the plane or even better, anyone know if the design is any good or not?!
Thanks

If a balance plug wire comes disconnected from the battery is it possible to fix? Would it be as simple as just cutting the end open to reveal where it connects and solder it back on?:confused:

I wanted to ask before i put these on a charger b/c after talking to my dad he said its not possible b/c the metal would sink the heat before the solder could get hot enough to melt. He then said he had no experience with LiPos, just NiMH and with those they used a special type of arch weld almost.

Thanks for checking out my post guys, and thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I'm planning to building a custom on-road car for circuit racing, I got a few questions:
1. Is there any particular ratio of length of the car to it's width that I should keep in mind while designing?

2. I am also thinking about a 3-wheeled car, 2 wheels in the front and 1 at the back. Something like the Campagna T-Rex. Is that a proper racing set-up?

2. How do I derive a proper gear ratio (spur:pinion) for the motor I am using? I need an efficient balance of RPM and torque.

3. Do aerodynamics affect the performance of the car at less than 25km/h?

4. I'm build a monocoque out of a a material what they locally call 'foam board', it's actually used by architects to build scale models of buildings, pretty stiff, quiet tough, and very light-weight. I have built model aircrafts using the same material and it's very good, but this is the first time I'm using it in a car. Anybody tried this before?

so we might as well start our Unofficial list for this years RCGroups badges.

*NOTE* These are NOT PILOT Badges, you need to go to the link above to register as a pilot if you intend to fly at the fair!

Okay, so without further adieu...

"You may not need a stinkin badge but IF you would like one here's the place to get on the list" :D
Starting with Jimsky's template from 2009, I've been making these for RCGroups members that would like to put a face to the pen names we live by here.
If you would like a 2012 RCGROUPS Badge, I will need to know 3 things.

Your RCGroups Name
Your Real Name (It can be just your first or your whole name, your choice)
Your Town and State

Also, as an option, let me know if you would like to have your avatar picture displayed on the badge as well!

We are really looking forward to seeing and flying with you guys again!

Hello copter maniacs,

I am newbie to rotor and mutirotor machines. I have experience with RC fixed wings models and aslo successfull with FPV equipment.

I like to make a video by airplane and it is very inviting to fly with camera with some multirotor.

After study I choose plug and play soulution from multiwiicopters.com - I chosed they package deal Y6 Scarab with gimbal.
Y6 is builded now, and almost everithing looks works good, but I am stucked now, have problem with some oscilation/ stabilisation.

I make some two very short videos with problem.
In "hand" video on begin I am trying to destabilize copter pitch position, it works very nice, copter is tryinfg to push aginst my hand.
Then trying "roll destabilization and copter is not helping to stabilize it, even it made it worst
Second video shows how it looks after start.

Multiwii Y6 In hand trouble (1 min 6 sec)

Multiwii On the ground trouble (0 min 24 sec)

TX is calibrated (loww, mid & end points).
Props are balanced, engines also balanced, not experience from previous project, but looks that vibration are now very low)
PID are default preseted from multiwiicopters.com
Not sure about acc and gyro calibrating (not sure if I made it corect and if it can cause those problems) - I just do that by sticks on TX after copter is powered on and unarmed.

Thank you very much for any hint, any advice.

Have a nice day, Dave.

With the Frog build off done and dusted it's time to tackle a couple of models for the "BritKit" bash. A few evenings perusal of some old Aeromodellers and the choice was made. First will be a Veron Phoenix and later an R/C conversion of a Mercury Crusader control line stunt model.

This will not be a Billy Whiz building job as I don't do much building during what we laughingly call our Summer - flying and other outdoor activities take priority.

Anyway, the kit plan was obtained from Derick at Model Plans as, for some reason, it's not on Colin Smith's Veron list and is shown below. Phoenix was a rather elegant 60" span open class glider with a flying weight of 16ozs. I intend to put a small electric motor in the nose and use rudder and elevator control. No enlargement will be needed and if I can build it to under 24ozs I will be happy.
