HLA115 Mini Telemaster RTF w/2 Wing Sets

Ready-to-Fly airplane with both regular and aileron wings included
47" wingspan, 32-1/2" long, 329 sq. in. wing area, 23 oz. flying weight. Mini-Telemaster is now offered as a Ready-to-Fly airplane. Included are a 6-channel 72 MHz transmitter and 6-channel receiver, a 110v plug-in wall charger for NiMH/NiCD battery packs and a 7-cell NiMH flight battery and the propeller. 2 wing sets are included; begin with the regular wings (without ailerons) and when you want to move up to 4-channel control just switch to the included aileron wing set. Airplane is pre-built and pre-covered, a brushless 1300Kv outrunner motor and 30A speed control are pre-installed. The elevator and rudder servo are installed and ready to be plugged into the receiver. Nearly all the building has been done for you, what remains can be done without glue in less than an hour. The main landing gear is pre-bent wire and the tailwheel is steerable. When it comes to flying, Mini-Telemaster flies like a Telemaster: smooth, responsive, and predictable. It still has all of the gentle handling and slow flight characteristics of the larger Telemaster airplanes. The difference is it can be flown in a much smaller area. For 3 or 4 Channels: Elevator, Rudder, Ailerons (optional) and Throttle.

How much abuse can this thing take? I am thinking about getting it for a club trainer (park pilot club). Also, wind capabilities? I am dissapointed that it comes with a NiMH battery though, what would be a suitable Lipo replacement?

Good questions. I plan to build one for the same purpose (club trainer for Park Pilot Program) I'll do the "build it" version rather than the RTF. That way I can pick my own motor, esc and battery (LiPo of course)
Wind? That's just a state of mind!

Lol, I can handle any wind as long as it isn't more than the plane's airspeed, but wanted to know how much it can take without affecting a beginner too much.

Are you doing the kit or the ARF? I may do that too, the ARF that is...don't think I am ready for kits yet (not for somone else anyway! ;-) )

What are flight times with the nimh??? I would probably assume double that for lipos since they are double the energy-density.

You can use a two cell lipo somewhere around 2100mAh. It may take some lead in the nose to balance though, or a larger battery. It will be able to handle some wind, but it's best to keep training on calm days.

Thanks,

Ok, thanks for that. Any idea on flight times?

With NiMH it's around 7 or 8 minutes. Lipo will more than double that. It will fly with just a touch of throttle.

I am new and uninformed. Had pretty much decided to buy the HZ supercub as first plane then remembered the mini telemaster rft with 2 wings. For a beginner what would be my best trainer? I know I'm getting into alot but I'm prepared for what ya'll know I'm in for. I'm buying one or the other and I am asking the experts, you guys. Thank you; Dave

I started out with a stock HZ Supercub and it was a great beginning airplane. I then put in a brushless motor, ESC, Lipo battery and added ailerons on the wing. The result was much better power but the ailerons I added to the trailing edge created so much drag that it would only glide and land with about 1/3 throttle. So I got the Mini Telemaster ARF and am now flying it as 3 channel until my aileron wing order is filled by Hobby-Lobby, and I think this is a great basic trainer that allows you to make the transition to ailerons with a properly designed wing. I put my Cub motor, ESC & Lipo in the MT and it is a perfect combination. Couldn't be happier & can't wait to get the new wing!

It would be nice if you can get the same package without the radio.

I am looking at the Mini Telemaster RTF as a beginner electric. I will need to take off from grass. It can be cut VERY low. Is this model suitable to take off from short grass as the stock RTF? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes, the RTF is fine for short grass takeoffs. If you have problems with noseovers, you can always install larger wheels. As a beginner plane, you should probably start out using a 2-cell lipo battery and when you get flying well, change over to a 3-cell lipo.

Only thing is the mini does not have a battery hatch like the larger TM has. One has to remove the wing to change battery.
