Receiver Purchase

Guy's i've been out of RC for a long while and need to be schooled. I'm using an older Futaba 8uhp trans on 72MHZ for a new UAV, and need a matching receiver. Whats up with a the newer aftermarket receivers? I'm looking the best possible range, and releiability. Is a REAL futaba unit the way to go? I here about failsafe units for PPM? This would be great as i would like to have that feature to engage the autopilot on signal loss. I have a PCM unit that can do it. but I don't want to deal with the PCM /Copilt / buffer issue.

I need to buy soon. Help!
