Somewhere in this mess are some really old things:

A friend of mine gave me his old (very old) gold tubbed RC10 and Hitec
Challenger radio today. Took me quite a while to strip out the
mechanical speed control, clean it up, put in a new motor and my old
MC112B speedo, and build a battery, but it moves under it's own power
again. Massive understeer on power, but I think I can tune that out.
Definately needs new tires. These are beyond dead. Hard as a brick and
huge flat spots. Should be fun, though.
I got to thinking about the wheels and I might have an idea. I'm going
to take a good look at modern stuff and see what the differences are.
Maybe I'll be able to find some bearings for the front that'll adapt
from old axles to new wheels. On the rear I might be able to just
drill out some wheels to fit. Have to check on that, though. If all
else fails I think Associated still has some original tires that'll
fit.

IIRC the rear wheels off a new RC 10 will fit .. the fronts definitely
have different bearings, so I think you'll also need the bearings from a
new one .. ;)

I thought the front axles were bigger on the new cars, though. If so
I'll just have to measure stuff and figure out the right size. Not a
big thing. I might have a chance to get to the better, but not so
local LHS tomorrow or Sunday, so maybe I can find something that'll
work there. Just have to remember to put the mess in a bag first ;)
Since I'm usually an on-road guy I'm used to having fairly clean cars,
but then I tossed this thing out on the driveway and proceeded to find
every bit of mud, gunk, crap, and goo in sight. The thing is just
disgusting right now ;)

She's a beauty. I've wanted another one of those for a long time...ever
since I sold mine back in the early 90s.
IIRC there is a different set of bearings and hub carrier you can get from
associated that will accept newer CVDs (bigger axle). I saw someone do this
once but I dont remember how they pulled it off. My memory is hazy.
They still sell the road version of the RC10... maybe something could be
swapped from that?

What is "the road version" of an RC10?
I am curious.

The RC-10DS (Dual Sport). It's an old tub rc10 with different suspension and
arms, set up for touring car parking lot racing.

I still have a world's car and a team car. The older RC10 had a "stub"
rear axle (it got skinnier where the nut threads on). If you can't find
RC10 Rims (rear ones) you can bore out some B2/B3 rims (not all the way
through but about half way, cutting inside out). This works. They have
a little slop, but hold up OK. they did make some 2.2 rims at one point
for the original RC10's. up front I can swap my fronts from my B2 with
the fronts on these two cars. There might be a little slop, but it
works (at least on all my cars). I might have some extra tires (mounted
and all) for the older cars, if you want I could look at what I have and
tell you how much I'd want for them. The RC10DS never took hold. It
was too squirley to keep up with touring cars (unless it was a really
open track) and not quick enough to keep up with a pan car (although it
handled easier). Tower still has a kit for about 100. Hope this helped
some.
