I now have these 60mm EDF units in stock. The rotors are copy of the 3 blade and 5 blade Alfa rotors but cost much less and appear to be made from a stiffer plastic. This thread will be for discussion of this fan an its uses :)

great news.
Thanks.

Do these units come very well balanced
as those 60mm alfa fans? That would be
awesome for the price.

how large is the motor housing?
Could a 28mm motor be used with the housing?

Thanks

Interesting Don ... I may have to give one of these a try for sure! Do you have any immediate projects into which you may insert one for some data and performance info?

listed in Don's web site.
Performance of this new fan and 60mm alfa fan
is identical. So don's motors, LS and many motors
out there are good and ready to use.

the difference is the adaptor.
Alfa has one 2mm adaptor.
This new fan has one 3 mm and one 3.2 mm collet adaptor.

Life is not that simple

It is not a 100% identical copy. Mainly the rotor blades are the same. The housing will fit a 28mm inrunner so that is why they include a 1/8" adapter as well. The spinner is a screw on spinner so balancing is quick and easy to do by rotating the spinner. Also please note the Alfa rotor plug I sell will NOT fit this fan as the rotor hub is thicker walled. I will post a photo.

Here is the back side of the rotor, you can see the center wall is thicker. Also the housing has two mounting tabs unlike the Alfa unit.

I just got one. Nothing turns as smooth as this. Certainly well balanced and the thrust is around 600g @3s with 5100kv blitz outrunner and the 5 blade propeller. The 3mm shaft adapter did helps a lot to reduce vibration. It outperforms any stock 64mm EDF in terms of thrust and balance.

I haven't tried the 3 blades @ 4s yet.

The 5 blade runs smooth in my BD5. I think this is going to be a popular fan.

So the BD5 will be the first one to "test" this new fan in? I am feeling the need to get one from you man! That is a great price!

The BD-5 is the first. Then I am putting one in the HP F16 airframe as well on 4S for a low cost 100 mph package for that airframe.

Just got these in the mail over the weekend. I drew up an Alfa ring and had them laser cut so the EDF unit can be mounted into an Alfa EDF jet in a similar method as the Alfa EDF unit. The ring is made of three identical pieces and they are just glued together. Just a quick note, this ring can not be used as an identical replacement for the stock plastic Alfa ring because the OD of the 60mm EDF unit is about 1mm larger in diameter than the Alfa EDF unit. So this ring will be a loose fit over a stock Alfa housing. Anyhow, I will be starting a new thread on an Alfa F86 and will show the installation of this fan unit with the ring.
