As I mentioned in the Castle Creations area, I received a Phoenix25 ESC from Hobby Lobby that had a smoked FET on the circuit board. It was in this condition right out of the box (see upper ESC in photo). I've since learned a bit more. For one, it could not have left the factory in this condition since all QA testing is done prior to the installation of the heat shrink and label. These are both damaged on the bad ESC.
Hobby Lobby's excellent service department replaced this ESC free of charge with another (see lower ESC in photo).
Notice how the bad ESC has a Deans plug attached (it was like this out of the box) and does not have the stripped and soldered wires of the replacement ESC. This is really weird. I'm guessing that somehow a returned ESC got mixed in with the new ones and was sent by mistake.
I am very happy with how HL handled this and I only mention it so that it may help someone else avoid wasting time with a similar issue. Cheers.
