Hi. I am looking at getting an electric rc plane. I am considering either a hobby zone super cub or a multiplex easy star. I wondered if these and parts including batteries are readily available in NZ. If so is there any problems with using batteries and chargers in NZ.

I am in South Island and wondered where would be the best places to buy one in Christchurch region. Online or instore?

Cheers

Heya mate, why not try get in contact with Formations-RC ? They are in the Christchurch area and the owner mentioned selling parts at cost, which may suit you starting out. They do a few foam planes, that look better than an easystar too :) Wilga 2000 etc.

Seem like good people to deal with.

Hey Gary,
One of my mates has a hobbyzone supercub, they are awesome, if you want to learn to fly it would be a good start. The only thing I didn't like was the transmitter... it had the throttle on the rear? operated on a sliding switch.
There are many good online stores here in NZ... don't buy off trademe...
If your a begineer, start with a 3 channel plane rudder/elevator and a high wing. rchellis have a supercub and they have great service

Hi jackosmeister and Reuben thanks for the links to the websites. It's good to see prices in NZ dollars as I wasn't sure on NZ prices till now.

I like the look of the Wilga 2000 too. I will keep the website in mind but I am leaning towards the Hobbyzone super cub instead of the easy star. It seems to have good reviews and thanks Reuben for another vote of confidence in the cub.

I agree with you Reuben about Trade Me. I've looked on it but would feel I could only buy new at this stage. There are certian things best left alone on Trade Me :D

Thanks again for your responses to my post.

Cheers

Gary :)

Gary,
Yes, trademe is good for finding your second plane or extra batteries etc, but buying a "ready to fly" is a good way to test the waters before buying expensive gear....
Its what I did, and after I got hooked on the hobby I was able to pass some of the gear on to a mate to use in his first plane... now I have a flying buddy.
If you have any questions regarding whats available here locally feel free to send me a message and if I can point you in the right dirrection I will.

Hey Gary,
No worries, I think in the last 10 months since I have been in this hobby I've covered most of the common mistakes... and learnt from them.
I made a couple of bad judgements when I first started regarding what planes I brought, now I've started building from plans (done 2 so far).
