Someone here @ RCG made their own Scale LG for a 1/5th or bigger Cub. I've been looking for 2 days and can't find his blog. It's not a vendor and it's only in his blog. Can anyone help? It's made with tubing & CF and is actually a bungee type.

Dan, this is the only one I know of, although it's a much smaller size, (1/8 scale).

Very interesting blog site, by the way.

Dan, I have built two of these LG's in 1/8 scale. Both have received quite a bit of abuse and have held up well :D I would like to build a 1/4 scale super cub in the future, and build the CF LG. Let us know what you end up going with!! :D

AmpAceThis is/was the blog I was looking for. I looked for this for 2 days to no avail. :( I finally entered 'bungee' for the search and got it up. :D
I book marked the thread this time! :o I'm going to do this build for the LG for the 25E size Cub. I contacted Bill in Idaho (http://www.piperj3gear.com/) for the H-9 size and only heard back the cost was $100 from him. Given the complexity, I believe this is very reasonable! I heard he was thinking of selling the business due to health reasons but am unable to confirm this. I did ask if I could go down there & touch base with him but have yet to receive an answer. I think that's been about 1.5~2 weeks ago. He's about 3 hours from me but I'd really like to see his work b4 I drop the hammer on a C-note. Given his reputation, I seriously doubt it would be a loss. Respective of that, I'd sure like to know what he could provide for the E-Flite 25E Cub.

TreyTrey, you have any pics/info you could post for us 'wanta do this' people? :) In all honesty I have 3 Cubs available. 2 ea. 25E size E-Flite birds(1 is NIB) & 1 ea. H-9 Cub. The 1 E-Flite Cub may never be flown because of the detailing hours into it. Not because of the scale detailing per se but simply because of the hours into the detailing.

Dan, here is a link to another former supplier of Cub gear: http://www.swensonspecialties.com/Cub_Landing_Gear.html
I was lucky enough to grab a set of these off e-bay, (for an arm and a leg), and plan to use them on a lightweight, e-powered, 1/4 scale Super Cub, I'm getting ready to build. The gear is very light, looks very good, and seems sturdy enough. Swenson says they have tested them on up to 20# planes. Swenson no longer is building them, but if you know someone who is good at heli-arc welding, they might be able to make you up a set.
I think Bill's gear, from Idaho is a bargain, compared to similar gear on the market. I had heard that he was getting out of the business due to health problems, and saw a for sale ad by him a while back, but I've heard that he's back in business now. Some have reportedly experienced long delivery dates from him earlier, though.
I think I would be worried about splitting and de-lamination of the cf tubes if used on a very heavy plane. On something like a light 1/8 scale, they should be fine, since the landing shocks are lighter.

Dan, unfortunately I do not have a detailed build log on the LG, Dave aka (toyjunker) has the best description out there. I studied the pics he posted to build mine. The LG more than exceeded my expectations in both form and function. I have really abused mine and they take it all.
I do think that the CF LG will work on a larger bird, but proceed with caution, it will come down to the bracing around the joints. With that said Amp has a very good point about the splintering and de-laminating issue. This is uncharted territory so if you are going to try this I would suggest you try it on something you are not too proud of. :D

I got ahold of Bill as he's 3 hours away from me. I'm trying to set a date where I can drive down & 'hopefully' have a look @ his gear. No matter what, it certainly HAS to better then the H9 gear but I'd still like to see what I'm getting. He's still (or back) in business. A C Note for the H9 gear & probably worth it. He doesn't have anything for the E-Flite Cub but maybe...? He was hesitant about that aspect.
Trey..It looks as tho I'm going to have to venture into some mfg. to get some real gear for the E-Flite cub if Bill can't make any. :( As the original gear is junk, I made some from gas welding rod that has a higher tensile strength for the 1 E-Flite Cub I have built. I also eliminated those icky tie wrap skirts by filling them in with balsa and covering them over. On the plus side, I have another NIB E-Flite Cub in the closet & another on the way if the seller gets back to me plus a NIB wing/glass set. These darn Cubs will be the death of my marriage if I don't quit! :o
I have 2 machinist friends that can make anything but I hate to bother them. That may have to change for the support brackets.
Appreciate the feed back from both of you...
