What??
I don't get pop ups,(blocked), but I still get the Banner add for
Harbor models at the top of most pages...

We should all clik on it(a lot). So that Dave will
think his money for ads is well spent. :p

Roger,

Are you heading to the Expo show This weekend?
Maybe Saturday? ;)

I don't mind the ads, some are even informative. But the folks who run the site make $$ off our "eyes", so it's in their own best interest not to screw up the place with nonfunctioning features.

It's all in their ad server... I don't mind, and sometimes even APPRECIATE ads... but if they can't keep the system running, then no one will see the ads...

The ads server (that puts adverts at the top of the page) is acting up again according to http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=991787

Those with Firefox and 'adblock' can 'block' ads.rcgroups.com and that should help pages load quicker.

Umi_Ryuzuki
Mar 03, 2009, 12:25 PM
Yup, no banner ads runing at the top of the page right now...
I couldn't load at all last night.

Sad thing is how agitated we get when we can't get an RCG fix...

Mar 04, 2009, 01:02 AM
Yep, need one (fix) at least daily; sometimes slip over to the dark side (aviation forums) - gotta scratch that itch occasionally.

Whew! And I thought it was my internet connection---. :o

Sometimes RC Groups simply won't load in a civilized manner. :p

So it IS them, then---? ;)

patmat2350
Mar 04, 2009, 08:48 AM
Yep it's them. And they're tied in with Google to provide targeted ads.... targeted by page content and perhaps YOUR viewing history. For example, on my thread about photo-etching, several Google ads for etching suppliers came up.

Kap, I'm surprised they haven't hit you up for a banner ad... only $150/mo!

I use Firefox on both a Mac and a Windows machines and never get any pop-up and this is one of the sites that always load fast, Blockbuster for instance I can have a shower before it loads.

Mar 04, 2009, 11:27 AM
Pat, as you know, I've dropped all my ads in the magazines, because all I was getting were catalog requests from old retired guys who added them to their dream lists, but never bought anything---. :p

A banner ad, whatever for? I already have an online presence---. ;)

I get plenty of business just through my website, thank you---. :D

This site has been so slow for the past month I've taken it of the bookmarks.
I load her up on a slow day in the shop, and then spend the rest of the day looking at Docktalk and Scale boats.
Pass by the computer and check out various things, then move onto the next item of interest, Chripes took 5 minutes to get here for a reply to this thread.
At that speed I would have a problem with buying from an advertiser, but Oh well.

A very good point, who would want to wait forever to buy something? :p

By loading on all that ad stuff, aren't they shooting themselves in the foot? ;)

You need new string on the Dixie Cups, Karl!

Seriously, at Prime Time it doesn't surprise me it's a little slower. There are gazillions of folks online both on RCG but all the other sites, and the Internet traffic DOES have a limit as to how fast it can route a message from one node to another. Then there are factors such as damaged routes and other network-level problems which are neither RCG's or your ISP's or anybody else's fault to point a finger at.

BTW, it also makes a difference if you have DSL or cable, how many of your neighbors (or not so neighbors) are online, and the type of connection your ISP has.

Very interesting, There are millions out there, out of work and are probably surfing the net. which would make the whole system slow. even up here in Maine.
Thanks for turning on the light bulb for me.

der kapitan
Mar 06, 2009, 11:56 AM
Andy, I just put on new string, waxed it, and even pulled it tighter---. :o

The entire system seems to be on the doggy side, not just RC Groups---.

Jerome is probably right about millions of unemployed being online slowing things up. ;)

Of course, I hear things are ALWAYS slow up in Maine---. :D
