Getting into FPV soon. Getting a dual output receiver so I can pilot by video goggles and record to my laptop computer simultaneously. Plan to use PAL mode for that higher resolution video.
Anybody know a decent USB video recorder that accepts NTSC & PAL input? I see a lot on eBay and many say they do not work with Vista. Some say they do work with Vista but the another auction for the same item says it doesn't work with Vista. :(
Just need to know what folks recording to Vista notebooks are actually using with good success (good video sampling, good drivers, etc.). Something under $25 would be nice -- I don't need any recording software bundles. A used item would actually be preferred if you know of any.

I've got an EasyCap on order (should receive it any day now) and have read in these forums that they seem to work well:
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.5707
I paid $8.99 for mine, but $14.13 is still a very good deal.
Before I found out about the EasyCap, I was getting ready to buy a GrabeeX:

Which had good reviews (although I haven't tried one yet). I've also seen them on eBay.

I'll probably go with the EasyCap. Looks small and convenient and records audio as well.

Don't let the low price of the EasyCap fool you, it works very well and the quality is as good as anything else I've used. I say this after purchasing and using multiple adapters first.
Here's an example of video captured with the EasyCap. Of course it's been compressed, but should give you some idea of the quality to expect.

I second that - EasyCAP rules!
It comes in two externaly identical hardware flavours: the older one DC60 which is being sold dirt cheap on eBay and comes with the 2.1c software on the disc (and a laptop picture on the packaging) and the newer one DC60+ (little more expensive usually) that comes with the newer software version and pictures a motorcycle on the box.
But of these are compatible ONLY with Vista32! If you want Vista 64bit compatibility look here:

Keep in mind that there are clones too. The clones write EZCap on them while the real ones are those that write EasyCAP!

Hi Keith.
Excellent quality.
Could you give a brief explanation or even better a pic on how you have the easycap set up.

Thanks for the link and info. I actually have Vista x64 on my desktop so 64-bit drivers are important to me.
But I already ordered a genuine EasyCAP off of eBay from Hong Kong. At least I have genuine EasyCAP! But may have to get a EZCap116 on the off chance I need to record analog straight into my desktop machine. My notebooks remain 32-bit (for now).

I am not sure the EZCap116 on that link I posted earlier is a clone.

do you know if this usb grabber records in interlaced or progressive mode?
interlaced gives poor quality (I have such a thing right now - DIGITUS)
I've been thinking about getting a pinnacle dazzle http://geizhals.at/a377864.html
but I didnt find out if it does progressive video.
thanks for tipps on that!
