I bought a Sturdy Birdy II kit from the Barks swap meet in NC... Cost me $20 bucks... All the pieces seem to be here even a fuel tank and engine mount... My question is I want to drill some holes in the fuse to lighten the bird up.. then I want to add some 1/16 x 1/4 balsa strips to allow me to cover with monokote... I picked up two full rolls for $10... Does this sound like a good idea??? I really hate to get fuel all over my radio equipment due to the fact this is only a retrainer plane... I got the jitters about flying my, as yet unfinished HOB P-51, after 13 years with no stick time...
All comments welcome..

P.S. will an O.S. .25 really get this heavy bird airborne???

I don't knows about the engine but as for keeping your RX clean do as i do an put in it in a plastic bag and zip tie it closed around the wires.

I replaced the fuse on my sturdy birdy with pvc fence material. I used a hole saw to lighten it up and covered it in monkote, directly to the fuse. It adhered just fine.

I had a Sturdy Birdy and it flew fine on an LA 25 - that is for 30 seconds before I crashed it from about 100 ft straight down. My first ever RC flight and on 4 channels without any help. Stupid. Stupid. Bought a RTF park flyer to teach myself on. But the LA 25 had ample power. Maybe not enough for serious aerobatics.

Hey woddyd thanks for the heads up...

I was really worried a .25 would not be big enough... not really worried about aerobatics... just a thumb retrainer..more fun then a sim... :D
