ok guys, looks like after talking to david at harbour models the stock is looking very thin at the moment. he has a pono (too much for me right now) but no san pedro :censored: thats what i wanted. so i asked him if he had a weyforce...he had to call me back. he calls back and says yes. so my question is...this a good model to build as fas as ease of assembly, competition worthey? should i install a bow thruster even though its only 32" long? its got korts and dual rudders. think i need a bow thruster? i plan on going to the foss cup this year. so tell me what you think. its not too much more than the pedro but its smaller.
also i was looking at the smit nederland from billings. much less $$$ but is the quality as good? abs hull vs fibreglass? hmmm...thoughts?

So many boats.. so little time...
Pat Tritle built a Wyeforce some years ago and he said it was good, so thats a recommendation

If the 'original' (1:1) didnt have a bow thruster, i wouldnt bother to install one. They are usefull however, I've got one in Mustang Sally, an 18" Springer...
Search the Nederland on here, there are several threads that comment on its quality..
If you are going for competition work, consider a short boat (more manouverable)... but with lots of power.. ;)
I think the Wyeforce falls in to that catagory.

thanks for the tips. i have decided to get the weyforce. it says the power package is this:
Uses Propulsion Package SLIP02 on 6 Volts Which Includes:
TWO(2) 6:1 Geared Motors
TWO(2) 6mm X 3/16" Couplers
ONE(1) VAN411 Speed Control
so can i run a 12v battery on this setup? i wont have individual motor controll but i not worried about that yet. i was planning on getting a 12v 12ah battery for it. i think i can make up ballast with the larger battery. i have held one in my hands and they really arent that large. so whatcha think..... :o

Which manufacturer is the boat?
If you want to have some really astounding maneuverability, check out the AcTion P94 module from the UK!
The $ exchange rate is good, and it's one piece of electronics that will give you 'incredible' control! No bowthruster needed :)
As an owner of a 'Weyforce' RTR, and a builder of the same from Model Slipways,...a piece of advise....put some ballast in her to get those props deeper in the water!!!!!!!
If you can get your 'waterline' to just below the guardrail, it makes the world of difference. :D

The Wyeforce kit that Harbor sells is the Slipways kit

Have a look at Ghost's wiring thread sticky for the wiring.

As long as the ESC and the motors can handle 12v, there isnt a reason you cant go that route..
The deciding factor is how much ballast (in the form of batteries) the hull will take.

fortunately working for a recycle company we have about 3 55 gal garbage cans full of lead in sheet and other forms. so i think ill have the balast issue solved. it says the hull is built strong Z(sure thats what they all say) so ill remember to get the props deep in the water. so ill be ordering it first thing in the am.

One thing you should know is that the Wyeforce tug used to come with metal props. If I remember right they were white metal first...then brass...and now cheap plastic three blade versions. The Wyeforce page on harbor models website is a little misleading about this.

toes...i meant david at harbor models.
towhook. i noticed that and i will ask him what props it will come with. if i have to ill tell him to include some brass ones. ill have to look to see how much propshop ones are.

That's probably not a bad idea. I would get 4 blade brass props for sure. The Wyeforce is too cool looking to put 3 blade plastic props on. By the way, do a build log when you start it.

Jan 23, 2009, 11:52 PM
yeah, build log. i will try to keep up with the experts here. gonna look at the props tonight so i have an idea what i got to spend on em.

But the real 1:1 tug is that color Aero...

Its more of a 'sandy' color though... not yellow.

Hee hee, I know, Toes... but we can pretend it was sold to a tug co. with better colors! ;) :D :)

Just a thought...if you're going to compete with it, seperate ESC's, or at least a mixer is the way to go. Did it with my Salvarile tug (small at 1/75 scale), and the bow thruster isn't even used.

Oh, and as for the wife, name it after her, and it will soften the blow when she sees the bank statement. And there is absolutely no sin in painting it the colors you want....not every model has to look exactly like the pics on the box it comes in. Paint it in your "fleet" colors!
Looking forward to the build, as it may be my next project too.

LOL! I named mine after my Wife and things went from: "Hey your toy boat is in the way again" to" HEY! BE CAREFUL WITH THAT!!" :)

well when i told her i would name it after her she said no. she doesnt like kimberly sue, she goes by kim anyhow. but i allready had planned on naming my 2 tugs after my boys. i am naming my springer after my youngest son. Brenden James. or Brenden J. and the weyforce is going to be named after my oldest boy. Nathan Douglas. or Nathan D. i figured that i would name them after my 2 greatest acomplishments in life. brenden or "b" as we call him is wheelchair bound, he was born with spina bifida. somewhere on here i posted a pic of us (the family) with dale earnhardt jr from last summers make a wish trip. it has nate and b in the pic. these are my boys and they get tugs named after them. :D
BTW. the new tug shipped today. should be here by wed or thursday. :)

A warning about naming. I started naming my models after great nieces & nephews. The problem was they came faster than I build boats so now I have a significant backlog. Looking forward to seeing pics of the new tug.

oh dont worry, no more children for us. bren is 9 almost 10 and nate just turned 17. we are done. no more kids. i got 1 more year and i can kick nate out. ;) :p like i would really kick him out. he is a really good kid. not a troublemaker like i was.

And unlike a tattoo you can change the name on the boat.
