Hi, has anyone tried the High Aspect from Art Hobby:
http://www.arthobby.com/gliders.html
?
I wonder if it is strong enough, as it is so light. I love the looks of it. Could be the model for some light evening thermals.

I've been looking at it also, anybody flown one?

One of our club members in Portland has just got one going. He set it up as an RES. I heard that he likes it but I haven't heard the details yet. I got to look it over real well at our meeting and it looks real nice. Probably not winch proof but fairly strong. I'll try to find out what he thinks of it and post it. Wouldn't mind having one myself. :D

Here is a picture Andre from Arthobby sent in a recent email. Nice looking ship.

Hi
I was just wondering if that is Andre in the photo??? I have a JK Thermic (almost finished) and I was looking at the High Aspect as well when considering but price wise I went with the JK Thermic. From what I have studed about this plane it looks as if it is a just a larger version of the JK Thermic (different design though, just constructed the same (the wing). I may be wrong though). I was quite interested in the fact that the H.A uses a DLG tail configuration. One thing I know is that this baby would float very well. I agree with Gliderguy "not winch proof" but it would be great on the Hi start.
I know that a few shops "around" sell the Art Hobby gliders BUT in my experience they sell them at a high price than Art Hobby does. Also Andre gives the best and quickest service around. He will email you back VERY quickly about enquiries. I always go direct to Art Hobbys. Whilst on the subject I saw in a Robbe brochure that they sell the same glider as the JK Thermic but it is called "Etalon". Obviously from the same Poland factory, but Robbe charge more. Well more in Australia that is (I like Robbe parts, but they are a bit on the expensive side here in Oz).

Glen

@ Gliderguy: I would be glad if you could as your friend what he thinks about the glider.
I wonder how it would be converted into electric. Does anyone know what kind of servos do fit into the wings?

Unfortunately, I think it will be almost impossible to fit a motor, drive battery and radio gear in that narrow fuselage pod.

This is important for me, I really plan to electrify it with a light electric combo. Have you seen the fuselage in real? ArtHobby told me that it will be easily possible to electrfy it!!
so I am very worried, because I will order one today or tomorrow.
Anyone?

I have not yet seen one up close, my comment is purely based on what I can see on the picture posted above.
I would recommend you contact Andre at ArtHobby, he WILL answer !

I think a small combo would fit in there from the pictures. There is a plan of the plane on the arthobby-homepage. From the plan, it looks like there is space, but I am not sure. But I will try!

I ordered the High Aspect and will report everything. I plan to make lots of pictures, if anybody is interested. I really can't wait to see it in the air.

Hi Smoo,
Post pictures and updates as you go. I for one would love to see how you are progressing with it (I also like to look at pictures ;) ).

Hi Masterpiece, I would be very interested in pics or experiences with your Etalon (JK. Thermik)! I always wanted to fly a Etalon before I saw the High Aspect. I was a bit concerned about the sturdyness of the Etalon-Fuselage.

I to would like to put an electic motor in the High Aspect. Any information on this as well as general information about this design is appreciated.
Wing cosntuction? wing Joiner? Weight? Quality, etc.
thanks for any information.

My High Aspect weights 825 Gramm out of the box - without any electrics. What ArtHobby says is not the flying weight. So a glider weight of 1200 will be possible. I am still not sure if I should but a electric motor in it. But it is planned: Mega ACn 16/15/3, 4.4:1 (Maxon) Gear, 8x 1700AUP, 14x8, about 28Ampere. This is a very light combo and all the components play together really well. If I'll make it electric, I will put two 12mm Servos (bigger not possible) in the glassfibre-tail.
But maybe I just let it be a glider...

Hi Smoo,
Can you tell me a little more about the plane? Are the wings sheeted in the black poplar veneer? Are there servo cutouts in the wing for ailerons/flaps. Where does the plan show the elevator/rudder servos in the non-electric version? Realistically is there room for electric motor installation? I am very interested in pursuing this model for electric flight. Thanks for any information you can provide! Please let us know how things progress with your model.

the wings look very good. they used a very thin but very nice looking wood and epoxied that to the polystyrene. It looks stable for the purpose. The central part has a carbon-spar. I began yesterday and did cut the ailerons and the flaps out of the wing. This took me 20 Minutes with a very shap knife and was easy. You also have to cut out the space for the servos in the wing. This will take me about 20 minutes again. It is marked on the wing where it has to be done. The servos as a glider are in the fuselage, NOT in the Tail. But for an electric High Aspect, I would do them definetly into the tail. You then have so reinforce it a bit. There IS room for an electric motor and Battery, but not much. I would take a very light combo. Mine (Mega 16/15/3-Brushless and Maxon-Gearbox) is 128 gramms together and is really small. I wouldn't use a a bigger motor. The Battery is a 1700AUP which is very light (260 gramms) and can handle up to 30A. Its size fits in the High-Aspect fuselage. I guess it will be possible to load it from the noisecone, if I put the servos in the tail. But again, I am still not sure if I just make it just as a glider, with Vario. I tried to order another fuselage, but its not possible in the moment. They wanted to sell a high force fuselage, but I really like the tail of the High Aspect.

I finished eveything, but has to build in the electronics now. It was really fun to do it and the SAL tail looks soo cool.
