OK, I posted this message in the Open Discussion group thinking it would get more traffic and it probably did but only one response really frightens me.
It is very possoble in the near future I will be buying a house in Elk Grove, California which is about 4 miles south of Sacramento. I'm already trying to establish where the nearest flying field or sailplane club is located. I havent had much luck.
I have a couple of sailplanes that I would like to fly. One has a motor and the other is a molded glider that I use a high start for but can also winch launch.
If there's anyone in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area that knows of parks, clubs, flying fields etc.. let me know.
Thanks,
Paul

Dear Paul:
SVSS flys over in Davis California and is a good size club with monthly contests and an anuual event they call the Spring Fling. They have 4 winches with retrievers and the field is set up for north or south launches depending on the wind. They have a lot of members flying full house molded planes and you better be able to land on spot if you want to compete in contests. There are also a number of nice guys who are fun to fly with. Like in any club of their size their is a mixture of ages and experience and I am sure you will make friends easily. The main store for supplies is R/C Country in Sacramento on Folsom between 59 and 65th. (Two exists from highway 50.) Terry in the planes part of the store can give you more information. Just because there hasn't been a lot of response to your question don't be concerned, it's a good club with a good field. Mike Heer

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback and the info on the club. I will definetely look into the club, I'd love to start launching with a winch.
I'm also going to look around the Elk Grove area for the casual days when I don't want to go to the club. They are building lots of homes in Elk Grove and there's tons of open land. I'd like to be able to set up my high start somewhere and fly. I guess the most important thing though is that there is a club that I can go check out.
Thanks,
Paul

Paul,
There is a group of us that flys in the Folsom area... east of Sacramento just at the foothills.
Go here to my website for a general idea of what we do around Folsom:
http://hobiehawk.com/flsmwind.html
There are a couple slope-able areas and a few good thermal/Hi-Start areas we use.
Typically we go to the Folsom Community College if the wind is north or south and light. We set up a hi-start. If it's blowen', we go up to the "water tank hill" and drive up to the "towers" just a little ways away. This area is just east of Home Depot at Hwy 50 and East Bidwell.
We fly electric's, foamies, crunchies, etc... hummm what's left? A few of us have gotten our combat foamies now built so that is in the works...
You can always contact me through my website:
