I have my first brush less motor, the 6-pole, 36-56-2030kV by AquaCraft. What maintenance is required to keep a brush less motor running? :)

Change the bearings every 50000 hours. :p

If the bearings are not of the sealed variety, you will need to lube them every so often. If they are sealed, Tom has the right idea... :D

Do I get 2 dumb questions today?

How do you tell if they are sealed or unsealed?

Sealed, also called shielded bearings have a cover over the balls.

Un-sealed, un-shielded, or open bearings have exposed balls.

I never leave my balls unshielded!!My balls are always cover with a set of Hanes briefs. So I guess that would classify. Ive got covered and sealed balls??? LOL.....

That is pretty funny! :D :D :D

Ok guys...I know what automotive, motorcycle, bicycle and trailer bearings look like....how about the itty bitty ones in the brush less motor? Do I have to tear apart the motor to know if it has sealed bearings or do I just wait till they burn up to find out they weren't? Do I ASSume they don't need oil?

Best guess will be ok at this point! ;)

Just for you experts. Shielded bearing are also sealed 99% of the time. sealed has a seal and shielded has a metal cover/seal over the balls and guide. Most and I say Most motors have sealed bearings because they don't want the grease/oil getting into the windings and brushes (if they are brushed).

Seriuosly though!!!Trinity makes a high speed bearing synthetic oil.I say oil Its not a grease Its very thin weight. An comes In a very small bottle with a very very thin stainless needle to apply a light drop. The car guys use It for motors an wheel bearings. They say a very small drop to the shafts. Where they exit the motor on the bearing face. Helps to keep them lubed enough.I bought mine thru Tower Hobbies look under the electric cars you will find It.

Thanks...I have some of that stuff....so I just tilt the motor so I can get a little to run down the shaft into the bearing...right?

How often on these motors?

Seriously, you are much more concerned than you need to be. Just run the motor. Chances are 99% it will never need any maintenance or lubing in its lifetime that you use it.

Well to be absolutely Honest!!! I really dont know how often to lube a motor...Ive never done It to one of my boat motors.I bought It for high speed electrics. Ive got In a customized new bright snowmobile..An I also bought It for my Nitro 4-Tec an my Nitro T-maxx.I mainly use It after I take my canned Air an blow out the bearings an shafts on the tires. They get rather dirty an dusty so I relube them!!!

I generally use a small drop of light oil once at the begining of the season on each bearing, since you seem to have a longer season...perhaps a wee drop every couple of running months(if you inadvertantly wash the motor...then you'll need to relube after its dry)
