The latest issue of Ships In Scale has some nice plans with it and they are inserted in the back of the mag behind the mailing address sheet. Be careful you don't throw the plans out with the plastic wrapper. Pete

Especially if you want to build a Manila galleon...

Manila galleon...

High on my list! :p

Thanks for trying though, SiS ;) I understand there may be some more interesting drawings in future issues!

The stick-and-string people apparently still hold a strong influence on the editors---.

As a sail boat man, I would assume that fast boat plans date very quickly and people want a performance hull. So giving away good planbs won't happen.
Working boat plans may also be more marketable.
IOM Sailing boats ditto.
But Galleons? A pig to build and sail, so probably less sellable, so ideal for freebies. Also galleons ahve the 'wow' factor for the uninitiated. So perhaps good for grabbing attention of ptentially new blood/customers.

Just my thoughts

Well it's a bread and butter build so not intended for r/c. The plans look pretty good and the detail is good too. Would make a nice shelf model for someone of that persuasion. Pete

I agree, Norgale! while the plans sets I have gotten from the magazine are not my cup of tea (or better, my bottle of beer), they really are very well done and nice to look at- Someday, I know I'll get into the stick and string display models... only a matter of time! :)

I was in the stick and string thing for many a year, ;) AND then by chance I found a R/C hull with motor, at a second hand store, :p as soon as I touch that thing I had cought the bug, know I have stick and string boats unfinnished that I started 9 years ago. Maybe I'll get back to it.

I did make one mistake in my comment above. The Galleon is made from a block of wood in the magazine rather than the built up style. It was another boat, a yawl, that was made by the bread and butter method and there's one made from a block of foam, the Normandie. Great instructions on all three.
However the plans are nice looking and a very nice model can be built from them if you want a model of that type. Not really my cup of tea either but I could frame the plans and hang them on the wall for a nice nautical decoration. Pete
