Talk about a stiff S&H fee. From NY to CA, UPS ground for a package that weighs in at .4 lbs. for an item that cost $8.03.
$11.99. Crazy man. I wish I could find a west coast equivalent of SDP/SI.

Isn't the base shipping cost for UPS $7.99? That means they are just padding their profit with every order.
If they would be willing to ship USPS it would only cost $4.85 up to 1 pound for Priority Mail.
Lots of business' rip us off by padding the shipping fees and calling it "handling".

I was complaining about McMaster Carr's fees... wasn't so bad after all. One order for two items was broken up into two shipments, I figured I'd get a high shipping price TWICE. Nope, one fee covered both, with the added bennie that the 5 foot length of 3/4" PVC rod came in God's own cardboard tube (6 footer, 4" OD, heavy enough to ship mortar shells in). Sawed it up, burned nicely for a while in the fireplace...

I take some pride, even if misplaced, in that not long after I berated Tower for high shipping costs on tiny items when USPS Priority flat rate was available, AND they give you free boxes, well, they started with "Parts Express" low cost shipping for small items. Yay.

If given a choice I would always go with USPS Priority. SDP-SI doesn't offer any choice. Plus, they throw on a handling fee.

Just saw an ad for one of those "as seen on TV" pieces of garbage. Some kind of magic clothes hangar originally $29.95 now only $9.99 but wait, call right now and get two for $9.99 just pay handling and packaging for each. Handling and packaging (aren't they the same thing?) are $15.99 EACH. $32.00 shipping for a $9.99 item that isn't worth 99 cents. I'd love to see how many orders they get. :censored:

but theyll get thousands of orders form little old ladies and lonely guys looking for someone to talk to. lol. my buddies mom had that obsesive compulsive disorder, you know where you buy everything on tv. when she died we did nothing but laugh at all the crap she bought. he will even admit she was a little weird.
and speaking of ups, my son just recieved his "chrismas present" from grandma. delivered by the trusty guys in brown. the box was trashed and had a gaping hole in it. thank god its just a scooter and it had no damage. but you would think so by the appearance of the box.

Yea...Small Parts has high shipping rates too. I used to order from them years ago, then the rates doubled. Too bad. Forgot about Berg, (thanks UMI) looks like they have a local distributor, gonna check them out. I had a place around the corner from me that had all this kinda stuff, gone. Thank you EPA. Those guys chased all of these types of operations out of SO-CAL. It's like all of the local industrial suppliers have left the state.

With gas at $4.50 a gallon they have to pass their charges on (and not make a profit of course) somehow...

I always request USPS when I order anything. I just got a shipment of flag stuff from Indiana by UPS. Took 7 days for delivery and the freight was $55 for 16 pounds because of an extra charge for two 6' long boxes with aluminum flagpoles in them(telescopic poles). I think this is outrageous but this is the only way the supplier will ship. Even FedEx is better than UPS. With UPS you get very high prices with slow speed at no extra charge. "What can Brown do for you"? Pete
