View Full Version : Do Micro sized Servos fit in 1/10 Touring cars?

Do they? just wondering. If the torque was sufficient, would a Micro-sized
Servo work in most touring cars without any modification? or would they be
too small? They seem much smaller and faster in general than standard size
servos and if you could find one with a good 60oz or so of torque wouldn't
that be cheaper than getting some expensive high-speed servo?

That would be excellent also for a throttle servo too, maybe. Anyone try
this yet?

Most micro sized servos don't have enough torque for steering (and
braking). Plus they are way more fragile. I definitely would not use one
on nitro car. On electric I have used some mid-size servos, but the
failure rate was too high and I went back to standard sized ones.

How about Mini-sized servos? the Hitec HS-225MG has the equivalent torque of
a Futaba s3003, but transit time of .14 at 4.8v and .11 at 6.0v and metal
gears... that's as fast as coreless servos, with enough torque for electric
TC's. What kind of torque do you need for steering an Electric TC? the micro
servos had about 50oz/in torque, which i would think is enough, though im
not sure...

Hitec 225 & 235 are among some "mid" sized ones I have tried. They do
work, but don't hit the boards too hard, they _will_ break. Torque
requirement is a very relative thing, you can get away with lower
torque, but you lose sensitivity. You may also find you have to shorten
the servo arm to gain torque, but then you lose speed...
Best BFTB in my experience goes to Ko 712 & 713 servos. Cheap, quite
fast, enuff power. I have used them for several years on different cars
(712 on nitro, 713 on electrics). They have plastic gears (light, but
breakable in heavy crash) and no bearings, but you can't beat them for
the money. To get over the slop they develop over time I have just
changed the case & gears every now & then (also cheap).
