Ben,
I think that's how it works. If you have G4.0 you can upgrade to G4.5 for free but if you have G3.5 you'll have to buy G4.5 if that's what you want.

I saw an ad yesterday saying that you can get a rebate if you already owned G3 but I forgot where I saw it. Should be around TH, GP, or RF website. It was an pdf rebate form.

any idea how much the rebate was for? I've searched, but can not find it. A link would be most helpful.

My Bad. Found the rebate form here (http://downloads.hobbico.com/rebates/3081223-rf-g4-upgrade-form.pdf) at hobbico.com which could give you $50 merchandise or $25 cash back but it was expired on December 31, 2008.

is it better than 3.5? I have to say, now that I'm using FSOne and RF 3.5 head to head, to work on 3d flying, the physics in FSO seem MUCH more realistic, and the rendering of the models is nicer (not true of the background, but who cares!). Too bad it seems horizon hobby has more or less abandoned FSO... no changes to it in quite a while. It seems like a product with lots of promise.

RF is much more cartoony seeming, and more demanding on the video card (I guess b/c of the eye candy backrounds maybe). But RF is a much more complete product, and the flight training modules seem pretty good.

People say G4 and now G4.5 is better than G3.5 in many ways. I chose G3.5 instead merely due to the cost - almost half that of G4. I like FS One since the ads show it's very realistic and may be more interactive. But I eventually ordered G3.5 because of the online multiplayer feature and the community supports.
