View Full Version : Now I've gone and done it...

Yup, it's official. I've lost the last brain cell in charge of self
control. I've decided to put the RC10LSS back together with some
insanely fast motor (I'm thinking 4 turn single). I need something
that can spin 55000 rpm under load with a 3.4:1 ratio through a locked
diff with Medial Pro IAS tires (better chance of them holding together
at the top end). I also need about 1500 feet of perfectly smooth
tarmac or concrete and a radio with a ton of range :)

I think I'll go to bed now. Sleep deprivation seems to be doing bad
things to me ;)

And a 10 cell pack.

I'm going with either 12 or 14 1/2SC cells with the brushless setup in
the XXXS. I forget how many cells I can cram into the 10LSS, though.
10 is easy, 18 isn't too tough, if I remember right.

Sometimes, I just gotta laugh at you *electric* guys. Heh heh... 18 cells, ya
may as well just make that poor car lug around with a cement block on its back.
At some point, there MUST be diminishing return to adding all those cells, that
also add all that weight.
At what point does the car become un-drivable, or just simply collapse under
the weight of that many batteries?

I've gotta laugh at the nitro guy down the street from me. He likes to
run his T-Maxx up and down the street all the time and the neighbors are
getting really pissed. The sheriff's department has been called out to
visit him several times because of nuisance complaints about the noise. All
the neighbors keep asking me why his truck is so annoying and my electrics
are so quiet.
Don't get me wrong, I like the nitros too but they both have their place
and followers.

I said it was possible, not necessary. Even with 6 cells the thing in
the top 1% in top speed, nitro or electric.

Just because I said I was going with a large pack doesn't mean it'll
be any heavier. 12 1/2SCs weighs very little more than 6 sub C's and
it's enough power to go well past 90 MPH in a pan car.

However, it's now 12:39 AM and I'm going to go play in the street. Can
you nitro guys do that and not piss off the neighbors? ;)

I wonder if those neighbors run weed-whackers, lawn mowers, snow blowers, chain
saws, lawn edgers... or any other noisy garden tool you can think of.

Well... I would only hope that my neighbors would have the courage to approach
me and talk to me personally about any complaint... before calling the cops. I
have been known to run my nitros in the yard and up & down the street once in
awhile, but at reasonable times, and not all day long. If we feel the need to
run for really loooong times, we all head over to the local park.

Agreed... 100%

I also love my electric cars. They have a place too... at the local (indoor)
carpet track, during winter months.
My comment was that I was laughing at the notion of loading 18 batteries into a
car... not any kind of personal attack on electric R/C's, or thier followers.

Now... for you electric guru's, back to my question:

The guy does his hobby work in his garage late at night. I've heard/seen
him running full tanks of fuel while running it up and down the street after
midnight VERY often. The neighbors don't do much yard work at those hours.
They have approached him several times and even I as an understanding fellow
hobbyist tried to drop him a hint but he does not care. The neighbors are
very tolerant and have never mentioned a thing about me running my planes
for short periods during the day when I work on them. He has even had
friends over running multiple trucks up and down the street at such late
hours.

As far as your question of diminishing returns; I'm still trying to figure
out how to mount my Zenoah G-62 gas motor in my 48" fun-fly plane. : )

Yes, but it's not the weight since you can just use smaller cells. If
you put too much voltage through a motor you can kill the magnets by
overpowering their field with the armature's field. Have to go with
cobalt or neo motors with more than about 8-10 cells.
