No wonder the wind turbines cost so much. Why can't we make them here? And look at that huge tank going to Billings Mont. all the way from Japan> We can't make that here??? No wonder we are going broke. We don't make anything here anymore. Pete

I agree with you, Pete, for whatever that's worth. Various people in positions of power and influence seem to have systematically de-industrialized this nation. I have a feeling that our children and grandchildren will pay dearly in the future for this folly. We may find ourselves in a position someday where other nations who aren't our friends can take advantage of our lack of manufacturing capability.
It's hard to imagine a more shortsighted strategy on our part. :o
In World War II, we had time - dearly bought with lives - to ramp up our great industrial might so that we could belatedly arm ourselves and our allies so that we could ultimately win that conflict. Next time around, we may not - probably won't - have the luxury of that time to re-arm ourselves sufficiently. We'll fight with what we've got at that time, and we'd better hope it's enough.

I've been and seen the port of Duluth but why Duluth; answer economics.-----Another subject but falls in-line with building . We used to get rc kit boats but not any more ( wooden type). Thing of the past. The only rc boats is of Blew-By-You by Randy Naylor. Oops, forgot Vac-u-boat is another quality boat. The prices are well-in-line of everyone. There's another boat called UFO-H2O on Finedesign. The BBY and H2O, i have but V-U-B, is to big for me but is priced correctly.

Pete, Here in Maine....AKA the Lobster capital, we're shipping by truck MAINE lobsters to Canada. They remove the meat and vacuum pack it. The Meat get's trucked back to the US and sold as a "product of Canada".
IF this isn't the numbest thing I don't know what is.
All we can do here is build model boats, which is okay by me.

Growing up in Newfoundland ...our fish got cleaned ,bone and frozen in bulk ...shipped to Boston or other points in the US and then sent back as the finished product as the product of the USA ...
Free trade ...what a joke ..

What happened to Cannery Row? We used to do all that stuff ourelves and now we ship parts to China where the chineses put them together and then ship the piece back to the USA cheaper than we can build it here. Something wrong with this picture.

Under Canadian Law, If more then 50% of the cost of the production of a Food product occurs in Canada, It can be Labeled a Product of Canada. Its nice to know who made the money, but doesn't tell you where your fish/fruit/coffee actually come from.
There is a movement to change this..

Norgale ..this is how it works .. my cousin went over seas on a dicovery mission to fine tune the companies diecasting operation ..
the plant they looked at ,first was a warehouse conversion ,,hot zinc and white metal was in a canal that flowed down between the injection machines ...guys were stood up next to there machine ...with a sheet wrapped ontop their head and a home made gauntlet and a laddle .... scoop up the molten zinc pour it in the loader and fire the shot ....but it wasnt just one machine ..it was hundreds ... all doing the same ..no safety ,no human rights ,,if you were hurt or killed a hundred more stood in line for the job ..the pay was minimal at best ...
they had hundreds of machines doing in an hour that their new more powerful machine could do in in a day...
they were actually buying the machines our industries were throwing out ,because of the manpower ,energy and maintainence it took to run them,
rebuilding ,and putting them to work for pennies when you consider the environment
upon returning and disussion with the team and the upper managment ..and also finding out they lost a major contract from GM to the East .... they had no solution .
The conversation we had ended ,with ...if we cant cut wages and enslave the work force ..were gonna be a third world nation ..its the only way to compete with the man power and will of the up coming industrial world ....
Basiclly the middle class North American must cease to exist if business is to compete with these nations

Those various people Jeeps mentioned decided that "we" would be an "information services economy"... Kinda leaves out a lot of people who's passion is working with their hands...
Nothing wrong with trade... would just be nice to know that deep sea white fish caught by Canadian fishermen was a Product of Canada and Maine Lobsters caught by U.S. lobstermen was a Product of U.S.A.! :)
More Coffee, re the fact finding trip, that is an eyeopener.

All my flags, poles and accessories are made in the USA and are appropriatly marked. I intend to keep it that way too.
Recently a new law was passed in Fl. that supermarkets had to put on the meat labels what country the meat came from. So they did. Now the labels say "a product of Mexico,USA or Canada". All three on the same label. Guess that narrows it down some. Now half my family won't eat beef because they don't know where it comes from. SO what's new? They never knew before either but now they won't eat it. Go figure. Pete

Just for kicks maybe some of you in countries outside the US could tell us what kinds of USA products are available in your countrys and at what cost. That would be interesting I think. Pete

Sounds great. Glad we can get some good stuff so close to home. My neighbor in the winter is from Guelph. He restores old Mustangs up there. He just arrived here yesterday for the duration.
Wonder how much you pay to have us make your pennys? The gov. wants to do away with pennys because it costs more to make them than they are actually worth. Same with dollar bills. They want us to use metal dollars but nobody wants them. Too heavy to carry around. Pete
