i'm just in the process of Building a Raptor 30 with a Hitec 7
Transmitter & notice the posts suggesting a Sim is a good idea for us
newbies. Looking at prices most seem to be £100 +, except the easifly at
£50 which comes with a lead to plug into the Xmitter Trainer socket.
Anyone any comments as to whether this particulat sim is ok, or is the
quality reflected in the price? personally I think £100+ is a bit much
to pay for a sim.

Hi Brian
Its not as bad as people make out, and gives you good idea of stick control
but if your
looking for graphics that are shit hot, its not the one!, but its not the
worst i've ever seen!
I used this for a while in the early days of hovering and it does help!
Its cheap and cheerful and thats what you get!
But there is nothing like sticking a hoop on the Raptor and just going for
it!
Just make sure your facing into the wind and you take things REALLY easy!
Better still, go to your local club and get someone to check it over and
buddy up with you on your first few flights

Paul

ps. it is a real git to get running under Win XP,...... Win 98/ME it loves
it

Hi Brian
I`m in the same boat as you, (being a newbie) i`ve decided to go by way of a
sim , and like you think that most of them are expensive when all you want
to do is learn the basics without it being too costly to the model. I`v been
useing easyfly for a few weeks now and while i agree that the graphics
could be better, the idea is to learn the basics and not explore the
landscapes.
The only problem i found was with my graphics card not being able to cope
with the program so i bought a NVIDA GeForce 4 mx 440 with 64 meg of ram,
what a difference, i`v seen a few models being flown and this is just as
real and responsive. All in all a good starting point for those with limited
funds to throw on repairs ( thats not to say that they won`t happen)

I had the same idea as you. Bought a Hitec Eclipse 7 (Great radio) and the
Great Planes G2 simulator, also a good product. But you can not run the sim
through the Hitec. It's something 'they don't tell you and they certainly
don't want to refund your money.

Why not give FMS a try ? It's free, and building an interface cable for the
Eclipse (or any other radio for that matter) is easy and cheap. You can also
buy one ready made for around 20 ?. The sim is perhaps not as realistic as
its 250 ? counterparts, but it will give you the coordination you need when
you start practicing with your Raptor. You can download FMS at
http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html, There are tons of models
available for FMS on the web.

I also use a Hitec Eclipse for my Raptor .30 and the CSM sim - while not
graphically stunning does the job excellently for around £65.
