Hi all,
Just finished my BOT kit and my AUW is 44.5 oz!! :) I'm expecting ''excellent'' performance at this weight considering my BOT ARF fly's ''good'' at 61.5 oz. The wing area is 1000 sq. inches so what would the wing loading be at 44.5 oz? I think I might set it up for about 10 oz. of ballast also. I do not expect AVA performance but it should be very good I hope. I have an AVA on my shelf now waiting for assembly, but I think I'll convert my "heavy" BOT to electric first for those busy "power" day's at my field.

Well, the math is pretty simple:
One square foot = 144 square inches, so 1000 sq in = 1000/144 = 6.94 sq ft
44.5 oz / 6.94 sq ft = 6.4 oz/sq ft wing loading
That's reasonably light wing loading, about what one would expect for a 'real' Bird of Time (as opposed to the overweight ARF version)

...Just finished my BOT kit ...
You can't post that without posting some pictures! It's against the rules.
Or at least it should be ...mumble mumble mumble

I scratch built a BoT a few years back with carbon spars and a 3-piece wing. It came out at 44 oz. even... It flew nicely. Someone in Houston is still flying it...

Hi all,
Just finished my BOT kit and my AUW is 44.5 oz!! :)
Making me feel bad.... My ARF that I'm putting together should be around 65 oz.
Let us know how it flies....

Andy,
I also have the BOT ARF and it weigh's 61.5 oz. I dont know why the ARF is so heavy.

Just practicing Sorry about the wrong pic but it is my first one and I was just trying to see if I could do it. I'll take pic's of the BOT and post them. This is my first passion but I think I'm getting hooked on the silent flight. And to think a year ago I was strongly against "circle flying" (war bird's)

That's a very nice noise maker. You use it to scare of the birds?

O.K. here are the BOT pic's. Many mod's here... Slimmed down fuse. Streached fuse two inches. Stock two peice wing but converted to bolt on instead of rubber band's. Pull Pull rudder to save weight in tail. Replaced a LOT of wood including the fuse sides and all of the diecut tail part's. diecutting was good but the wood was very heavy!! covered in trans. Ultracote lite/oralite. You can't tell by the pic's but you can see ALL the wood grain through the trans. covering. Look's kind of cool.
Oh yea, my noise maker is actually pretty quiet with the cannister muffler's on the DA 100 twin. :D In the air most .40 size trainer's and sport plane's are much louder!!

Very nice looking ship you have there. I recently purchased a BoT and hope to work on it over the winter. I will be making mine electric due to not having any good winch/high-start areas nearby. I got a Dynaflight kit and am wondering about changing the all moving horizontal stab into a stab/elevator arrangement like the new laser cut kits use(aerosphere?). I will also be adding spoilers to mine.
Why did you decide to lengthen the fuselage(tail)?

All the length I added was at the nose. I did not want to change the wing saddle or the tail length/incidence.The full flying stab. work's quite well and is removable in about 3 second's with no linkage to remove.(internal linkage via bellcrank)
