Hi guys,
I fly a number of electric planes and flying wings, and have been following FPV for some time now. I enjoy a bit of AP with my planes (flycamone2), however wish to take this a step further and get involved in FPV flight.
Has anyone experimented with, or have any views on a FPV Flying Wing?
Any feedback - advantages or disadvantages to using this type of model for FPV would be appreciated.
Was looking at a Wing with a 50" (inch) wing span, a slope soarer, which should provide a nice stable and smooth platform for FPV?
Look forward to reading your feedback.
Cheers,
Heli.

Hello Daemon, thankyou for your quick reply (also the link that you provided).
I see that you have provided a good deal of input into the 'other' thread also. :) To conclude, it appears the subject of flying wings for FPV is actually very mixed, with alot of argument both for and against them!
Perhaps I will keep my wings 'standard' and leave the FPV to a tried and tested platform like the Easystar! ;)

Yes,
flying wing is beautiful platform, but not for first time FPV flyers.
In this that 3d my post (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showpost.php?p=10596052&postcount=28) about it.

I fly FPV with a Maxi Swift. My favorite "low, fast and insane" plane ;)
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=518955 (not my thread)
The plane is insanely well suited for FPV since it requires about 4000mAh just to get the CG right. I've done runs with 40mins of continuous full throttle. Stuck a bigger (heavier) motor on, now I use 2x 2500 and get about 30mins of full throttle at 5m/s climb.
Edit:
After reading the mixed feelings about flying wings I really must say I completely disagree. The Swift flies extremely smooth, thermals well and is an absolute blast on the slope. The only thing I miss is doing knife-edge flights, but that is EASILY compensated by the insane turning radius and excellent speed range. For me it's the perfect FPV platform. I'm sure Gabriel (the one doing the crazy flights in brazil) will agree ...
I can see the angle the arguments are coming from. Many wings move all over the place. Not the Maxi Swift, though.

Always wondered what he flew, guess it was not as big as the maxi swift though? Anyone know his setup?

From the flight behavior I guess it was ~1m wingspan flying wing.
There is one video of him "sloping" a wing over the windshields of a driving car - I'm guessing that was the plane? Maybe it's a Swift II? But more probably a Zagi.
The small wings are not very stable, but the control you get with these things is just amazing. Always wondered why not more fly these things FPV ... If you think a EZ* is indestructible, then you've never flown a taped-up wing :D
