A frustrating weekend. My stock T-Maxx2.5 shocks have been blowing apart on
the most minor jumps after being reassembled after big air/bad landing
body/cap separations. As I look at the Traxxas part list, I see that the
shock caps are listed and available at Tower, and the shock BODIES are
pictured, but have no number, and are not on the parts list!! Seems like
Traxxas wants me to go with the aluminum shock cylinders at $8 a pop or buy
a big-bore shock kit at $80. I am sure I am not the only one who is blowing
these shocks out---what are you guys doing about your shocks?? Guess I'll
kick down for the big-bore shocks--always good to have backup parts.....in
fact, I'm also ordering a ton of back-up little parts to include in my
kit......

I'm guessing that shock disassembly is similar to what I used to do for my
Associated GT.......

Any input appreciated.......check out todays' pics on

G'Day,

generally, once you have popped the caps off those shocks they won't stay on
properly.
I replaced the ones that I have popped with the Aluminium shock caps and
they seem to be fine. I have not replaced the shock bodies at all, just put
Al caps on.

Regards,
Brad.

tops down at the LHS, think I'll give 'em a try......

If you decide you want to get new shocks, I recommend the Associated
kit. I got the Traxxas kit, and dealing with those little rubber
bladders is a PITA. They are fine once you get them filled and tuned,
but you may have lots of leaks until you get them seated properly.

The Associateds don't use the rubber bladders (just plain old sealed
caps), so you get air mixed with the shock oil, but that's no big deal
if you "stir" the shocks before running by compressing them a few
times.

As for me, I have no problem with the diaphrams, and my traxxas shocks are
always air-free. No so with associated . . .

Worked for me too!! blew three shocks the first time out!! got the AL caps
and been good ever since, although it is a good idea to wrap some teflon
tape around the threads, as some oil will be forced out if you do not.

On my old Maxx I popped two of the shocks regularly - I just put a 5mm wide
cable tie round the shock cap (whilst fitted to the shock) pulled it tight
and I haven't popped another since.

Problem is if I do pop another it will definitely thoroughly strip the
threads....

They still unscrew and screw on just the same (well maybe a bit tighter) and
it's a lot cheaper than £80 on new aluminium shocks ...
