Hi John,
What you'll choose depends on what you want to do with the boat; just putter around the local pond, of join a club and do steering competitions?
The tug has a greater 'playing value' in my opinion; you can tow barges and stuff and join in a club's towing events.
I've seen both boats in action and both are nicely made and will work well, if properly maintained.

The Thunder tiger comes with a 6v gel. battery and a single 550, giving hours of runtime.
The Southampton comes with 800mah-7.2 v,with 2 380 motors. It's good for 15 min. of runtime.
I think the Thunder tiger looks more realistic too.

I finally bowed to the RTR winds & ordered a TT Catherine last week for my wife to get her on the water. Should look nice all lit up with LEDs for Xmas.
