I am trying to get a list of links for modelling suppliers in the USA.

I am British now living in China, for my sins.
Because the Chinese banks only accept US dollars, everything I buy on my credit card overseas gets converted to dollars first (+ fees), and then gets converted to Chinese Yuan (+ fees).

I have a list of suppliers I can use in the UK but I want to reduce my costs and so I am looking for links to suppliers for modelling tools, timbers, RC gear, electrical, books, bits 'n bobs, etc. in the USA. Special interest area is sail and historic sail.

So to our friends in the USA, please tell me of any good suppliers you have used and their websites.

Thanks in advance.

I certainly can feel your pain, Mark!

The following is a good place to start:

I've got a list that I'll send you by email as well. Let me know if you can access either the Harbor Models or Loyalhanna sites since I'm blocked again due to The Great Firewall & haven't been successful using proxies. Darn censors must be into the opium again!

If you don't mind, perhaps we can coordinate a purchase since I need some parts as well. My eldest wants to come visit soon so perhaps we can have him be our mule. :D

Hi Chuck.
Didn't Harbour Models close last year?

Perhaps someone else on hear can shed some light on this.

And shed some light on Loyalhanna as well.

No, the one I'm referring to has a nice banner ad at the top of this forum. I had no problem accessing the websites while in Malaysia but no dice here in HZ.

If you can into google type in
"ship modeling faq. question 101-b" you can get a list of kits, fittings, etc.
"ship modeling faq. question 101-c" you can get a list of tools
"ship modeling faq. question 101-d" you can get lumber and other materials
"ship modeling faq. question 101-e" you can get miscellaneous supplies
"ship modeling faq. question" has many more interesting items.

The Dromedary Ship Modelers Center has complied a list of supplies, both in the U.S.A.
and abroad for the four different items above. I think that this list is what you are looking for. Post a note on RCGroups if this is what you are looking for. I will be glad to hear from you.
