Guys,I am a neubie here,I usually build RC aircraft, but was wanting to build a boat for my brother to use in an acre size pond he has. Is there a place to get free plans nothing scale just fun, and do you think using FFF foam board and covering it in fiberglass would be ok for this use? I was thinking a deep V with moderate power, but I am also not sure what that means. I have a surface radio system from his old dumas scarab 38 and some free time. Any help would certainly be appreciated. :)
thanks,

EErno

Cue Greenseaships, cardboard or foam should be roughly same technique. You could also use foam block or slabs hollowed out and skinned with f/glass or thin plywood.

I am building a mold now out of foam, then will pull fiberglass hull from it. Not sure what FFF foam board is, but i'm using the pink insulation foam from the big box stores. Just carve to shape, then fiberglass.
Only exception here, if you use something other than epoxy resin, you must protect the foam(i.e packing tape, duck tape, epoxy). I usually use epoxy resin (no cloth) to protect the foam, then i can fair with poly products.
Wax your plug, lay the glass.
If you want to save your mold, take extra care in the prep for waxing, release agent application. If it's just a one-off, then you dig out the foam if it sticks in.
Also, some foams react differnent to different chemicals, so i'm just talking about the pink foam with the ester based resins. Not sure with FFF foam board.

Here is a pic of the hull. Little more fairing done than shown in pic, but you get the idea.

Also, this was carved by using some pics and profile views available on the net, not plans.
