View Full Version : New Product JW60 DS Special
L2 Airframes
Dec 09, 2008, 07:02 PM
The 60" DS Special consists of the following changes
carbon plate drag spar
four joiners
8 spars
solid carbon spars
thinned fuse
4-40 linkage
10 mil laminating film
We have a few of the double joiner planes built up, the additional spars add tons of bending strength to the wing.
the thinned fuse is for nose weight only, battery pack needs to be placed in the wing. 1000mph has a thinned fuse on his purple flamed JW, it's completely noticeable i am surprised nobody emailed me about it??
Plane is not on the web page you must email me L2airframes@cox.net or pm me
Kit price is 148.00
Thanks

Wow, that's a deal for all that stuff. Is it limited production?

I suspect it will be limited to one cutting session, 10 planes, cutting the additional spar slots isn't fun so you lose interest very quickly

I have a complete build thread on the new plane I'll probably post up later.
here are just a few pic's of it.

I recommend the custom battery L2 sells. The extra spar makes wing battery location kinda tight.

Mines ready to go... just need everything to work out to get on the hill... mine is a slim 84oz.
Hey bill... i thought you were going to call it the "California Special"?

if it had upgraded elevons like carbon ones i would pay the 150.00 for upgraded kit. it sure would make those jws safer to be around and funner to fly. but for that price you can almost buy a destiny.the new spars are very nice and killer trailing edge carbon strips much better than the ones i used in my free kit.

I am about to build the wing on my JW. I am not sure whether to build this one light for the 15-20mph summer stuff I get locally or to go heavy for use now. I can cut the second spar slot in my wing using a laminate trimmer with a straight bit and custom base to ride in the existing spar slot. But other than the spars, is the airfoil unchanged? Maybe I will just get the new kit and shelf this lightweight one for after spring....

Safer? More fun? Why?
Yes, the Destiny is another plane. The JW is a kit you build yourself. Why the comparison?
Ask Nick and Ian if they feel safer around my JW or my Destiny. :o

I was in the same boat. I delayed my lightweight and bought and built the double spar one. It'll fly in 20mph. If I had to have only one I go for the DS special.

Good advice and exactly what I was thinking, Stu. By the way, how do you get your fuselages so glossy? Do you clear them with something?

I've used untinted thinned goop once or twice but gotta warn you , I think I just ruined the finish on my green one by adding a coat last week. Probably did it subconsciously so I would fly it harder.

ill probally get my jw going faster than my destiny anyways im just thinking 28 inch balsa elevons even coated in 10 mil laminate are weak at best definitley reccomend tips or stronger elevons thats all .

laminating the elevons with the new stuff makes them totally bad a$$,,and to think I flew 205 with nothing but ultrcote on the elevons.
JW's will be going faster soon.

I like shortening the elevons too but there's no arguing with Nick's success.
Divebomb: did you have elevon problems at speed? I recently beefed up my center hinges to eliminate slop. Hopefully will try it out tomorrow. We've got 25-30mph winds in between snow showers.

Hi Nick,
nice looking plane! how are the shortend elevons working out?
i guess for DS it should work a bit smoother than the full size elevons
How ist the fixed trailing edge aligned?
a little upwards or straight on?
i once downloaded the coordinates of the airframe in bad quality, and there the treailing edges go up a bit (in german we call this S-Schlag-Profil, used alot on planks)

Hi Martin,
The shortend elevons work great and the fixed part of the trailing edge follows the bottom of the airfoil and not the top so they look like they are slightly reflexed or a tiny bit of up.
