What am I talking about you may say ?

Has anyone tried using one of those RF keyfob transmitters designed for car alarms, garage door openers etc to make a switch for a C/L model ? I've just realised that I can buy the transmitter and receiver for about 10 ukp ($14) and the rest of the circuit shouldn't be all that difficult. It'll be easier still if someone has already done it though.

I have an infrared switch sort of working (blip for on, blip again for off). I haven't got the full throttle version going yet. IR seems to have a problem in bright light. As it circles round and the sun gets in its eyes it sometimes switches randomly. Not much fun.

Steve,

Could the transmitter/receiver of a cheap radio controlled car be an option? Some of them actually cost just a bit more than their batteries...
The receiver circuitry can provide enough power to run a small motor so this is more than enough to activate a relay to control a plane's motor.
