Well I wanted to see if I could get this old Byron corsair turned into another one of my electric conversions. At first it looked like no problem. Then as started gathering information and adding parts together and looking at the weight I started to get a little concerned. I might have bitten off more than I should have. I talked with John at Iron Bay who was very helpful in answering questions I came up with like weight. He said 30 pounds is not bad at all,,,,30 pounds on a warbird? An electric warbird. Then he told me the holes on the side were to be used to balance this old girl. Well things progressed and started looing good. I still had my doughts about 30 pounds though. I have an AXI 5345/16 on 12 cells, 8000 mah. Swings a 22/12 carbon fiber prop, pulls about 68 amps during a stactic test. Well I maidened it this past Saturday. John at Iron Bay had told me to let it run as far down the runway as I could stand. I now know why. A 30 pound plane electric, gas or what ever needs a long run to get the speed up. I had never flown a 30 pound plane before. It came off the deck looking like a full size corsair. Flew very nice and scale. Not the fastest corsair in the world. I will be flying it again soon. Here are a few photos of the motor inplant. The cowl,12 cells of lipolys, firewall, motor,2, 5 cell NMH flight packs for the reciever, ESC all come off with 4 allen head bolts in about 4 mins or less. I used 4 set pins to line up power system and it goes right onto the bolt holes no problem.
