I want to purchase the "little devil" control line plane. Who made it and is it available? Does anyone have photos or plans? I had once flown this plane as a boy.

The "Lil' Devil", if it's the one I had, was kitted by Scientific, which is now out of business. Mine had a carved solid balsa fuse (like a dugout canoe!) with a pre shaped airfoiled solid balsa wing. It flew (barely) with my OK Cub .049B...HEAVY!

Don't know where you'd get plans, possibly one of the other control-line forums could point you at a supplier of Scientific nostalgia.

That's great news! Definitely on my "must buy" list!

How does an Endo on 10 cells, 4.6:1 GB swinging an 11x7 prop sound?

I checked their site, though, and couldn't find any reference to it, even with searches for "nobler" and "topa0220". Hopefully they'll be updating it soon.

I doubt pappypete even checked back for an answer but in these days and times blackhawkmodels.com is rekitting this plane for a very reasonable cost.

For those who may not know, there are Musciano events whose sole purpose is to get these models and the people who like flying them together.

Yeah, Musciano was known for his heavy (but mostly indestructible) models. I have been staring at an old plan for a Waco N from Air Trails for awhile now, but I already have 3 or 4 c/l models waiting to be flown...

Between the log fuselages and the ability of a Cub to generate anything more than gerbil power, I am sure that I wasn't able to get my Scientific Mustang to fly... Can't say the same for my Joy Stunt Runt (now a reissue courtesy Blackhawk as the Navy Fighter), it was a riot to fly, even with the anemic Cub!

Do you have any pictures of of the Navy Fighter with your cub on it? Looks pretty cool!

That IS the Navy Fighter, I modified it to the old Stunt Runt profile.

I have a Cub, but it sure ain't going on this model! I have a PAW55 to install on this one, far stronger and easier to start than the Cub...

I hate to tell you, but that is NOT the Lil Devil. The original one had rounded wing tips and a tapered wing, made by gluing 1/16" sheet to the back of the airfoiled balsa part. Probably added an inch to the root chord. Check any model mag of the '50's for the correct shape.

That was my very first C/L plane, before the ringmaster and baby flightstreak!!!

Here's my current collection, have had 4 of these since the late 70's - they don't get flown that often anymore...

Here is the real deal. A vintage built plane from years past. This plane was sold at auction earlier this year and I thought it was pretty cool and saved some of the pictures for myself.
I am not the seller or the new owner. I wish I were!

Thanks, Lightthings. I was right about the tapered wing shape and wrong about the tips. I'll settle for .500

No problem Howell, glad to help.
I do recommend the Black Hawk kits. They are very complete, and the wood is much better than the old kits Scientific used to serve us. I think all you would lack is the 1/16" TE! you can supply that. I know you would be impressed over the quality that Black Hawk models offer!

I agree regarding the Blackhawk kits, but I found the instructions for the Navy Fighter to be scant, to be nice about it. Some critical measurements were missing, and the drawings lacked some information. Other than that, a very nice kit indeed...

pappypete, the first version of Little Devil was kitted by Scientific in the '50s, as stated in a book of Walter Musciano dated 1952, where there is also a quoted plan of this model, along with building and flying instructions. Let me know with a PM if you need the relevant scans.
