Hey Gents,

I had a great time building this beast. Life through me a curve ball in the middle of build, but I managed to pull through and finish.

The entire build is at http://www.wmunderway.8m.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1200112206/0

Please enjoy these few pics.

Impressive model. I couldn't imagine what it must have been like to be on the receiving end of those 18.1" rifles. How much of the deck works are functional?

Hey Pibber - thanks for compliment, always nice to hear.

I am an animation freak. I can't get enough of making things function. In another build, LHA Tarawa ( http://www.wmunderway.8m.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1207468809 ), 14 animated featured were introduced. In this particular build, Yamato however, my primary focus was making the guns fire safely. I am able to fire 15 barrels and launch one catapult. I've also incorporated smoke, lights throughout and sound. I will more than likely do more in months to come; if vessel does not sell.

Mike, Reid, SD rc boater - Thanks so much for compliments.

Mike, we've gotta get another run lined up. Just give me two weeks notice and it's on my friend!

Reid, I'm gonna have to meet you some day soon. I hope we do get some type of run going before fuel shoots back up.

SD rc boater, I haven't seen you in the wet stuff for 8 months or so; what's up with that? Are you still working on the beast? Gotta get down to Heritage Park after the new year.

Thanks again Gents.

Great pictures, awesome model. I like the animation also, did you ever consider spinning the props on your floatplanes with cell phone vibrate motors? I've been thinking of installing a few in my Arado's on my Bismarck model.

Hey Predreadnut - Good question.

Yes, I did make the Jake with a rotating prop. I scored the motors at Toys R Us, cheap. As a matter of fact, the prop actually produces thrust and can pull the plane across the water. The Pete, however, does not have electronics. It launches off a rocket powered, piston driven catapult system and tumbles into H2o. The smoke generated is a perfect substitute for a steam illusion.

Please enjoy a few pics and video. Keep in mind, the entire blog is at http://www.wmunderway.8m.com/cgi/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1200112206/15#15

Predrednut - great compliment, thanks.

Gents -

Normally I do what I need to do to put her to sleep, then it's off to the garage 'till about 1:00 a.m. It's definitely a juggling act with children too. I find my most productive build time to be Sunday 4:30 - 9, or so, a.m. I'm the kind of guy that commits to whatever I take on.

At the moment I'm stumped on what project I should take on next. I told Kurt and the locals out here, Disneylands "Mark Twain" is next. The news was received with a shrugged shoulder; our guys are diehard warship fans. I just may build another Ticonderoga class; the Mobile Bay CG 53. The last one I built was based on a lower quality model. This time, if done, I will use a better quality model as a guide. I like the idea of having a quick simple ship to operate, NOW.

Thanks for the great compliment John. There were a total of 3,500 hand cut planks, + or - a few. :D
