OK, I'm shelving the ECL speed 400 idea for now. Here's my new approach.

Assume an e-constructed Sig Akromaster. (34 inch wingspan, about 240 squares, and the box says .15 to .19 engine.)

What do you suggest for the motor, gearbox, prop, and battery combination to get the most aerobatic performance with a reasonable flying time for a budget of $125 for those 4 items.

(The $125 is not meant to be a hard number. Just a designation that says it's not 'cost is no object,' and also not 'as cheap as possible.')

thanks for your ideas, glenn

Not sure, but I think that a "stock 27 turn" car motor w/direct drive 8x6 prop on a 7x1500 car pack, using a low voltage cut-off relay ( http://www.ezonemag.com/disc/Forum14/HTML/000028.html ), might give you some good flight performance.

Too big for S400 and a bit small for monster truck motors like Magnetic Mayhem; so in between would be S500 or 27T car.

Also, you ought to be able to put this power package together very easily; maybe even with stuff left over from a RC Car nut!

What's the downside of using the Magetic Mayhem motor if it is 'too powerful.' I'm thinking the MM would be useful for a subsequent model, so maybe it could handle the akromaster first.

Only that MM is just a little heavier than a "stock" motor, and may also need to be purchased.

Originally proposed system (actually use 6 cells) could be gotten FOC from RC car buddy.
