Wow just completed the upgrade with the LJS 1400 / HET 6904 Fan / HET 75/90amp ESC.....I built it from ordering the scratch body parts (Fuse, wings, rudder, etc) I even reinforced the wings with carbon fiber inserts and ensured that every joint/seam was solid. I flew her a few times with the stock parts left over from my rev1 F16 (bad BEC) and she tracked flawlessly!
Then came the upgrade, which went in smoothly. CG was on point at 95mm with a 4s 3700 Rhino btry. With gear removed and a steady 7mph headwind I launched her with confidence. She didn't fail me, only this time it only required approx 40% throttle for a nice climbout. After 3 oval patterns I felt it was time to say those now dreaded words "go to full throttle up". Keep in mind that I've static tested at home several times for 10 second intervals with no issues, except dust getting blown around :-) So at "full throttle up" She spewed a small cloud of white smoke and i was instantly on dead stick. The BEC was evidently still working as I was able to glide her into a nice grass landing so I thought. Then came the flames. From the rear in the area of the ESC. This in turn caught the grass on fire , and fortunately for me there was a sandpile nearby with which I was able to distinguish the fire, whew. Nevertheless 60% of the Jet was destroyed. The Btry was untouched and I still have to complete my full damage assesment later this evening. I'd like to know if my pwr combo was at fault ? I plan on rebuilding in a week or so.
