View Full Version : Careful! Spyware or adware on HL's website?

After clicking on the Hobby Lobby link at the top of the screen here in RcGroups, I noticed my McAfee SiteAdvisor bar turned from green to yellow, saying "In our test, we've found downloads on this site that some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs."

When I click on the McAfee button for more information, it says that a file named "STK02H 2.0 (FC update-303.zip)" is the problem file.

Is HL aware of this?

Do they care about this?

Is this the only spyware/adware file?

Is it safe for me to browse the HL website anymore?

You gotta love McAfee. There is nothing to fear here. That file is a firmware update for our FlyCamOne2 video camera. It is not adware or spyware. It's not even hosted on our site anymore. We pulled it two weeks ago and put up a link to the manufacturers website where the file is now being hosted. You are safe to browse our site.

Thanks,

I would try the Norton stuff anyway - far more comprehensive protection and not just form the the devices you have access (IE USER name PW for) anything your connected to is monitored. McAfee is ok if you want some protection some of the time... this is not just my opinion either.

McAfee always seems to be problematic. I use Nod32 from ESET the for anti-virus and the free firewall from Comodo. Both work real well.

I used to use the firewall from ESET, but it was a bad resource hog, not as bad as Norton, but bad enough that I changed to Comodo.

For the record, I have never found any spyware on the HL site.
