Just rocked up at the door.
Im personaly getting a bit bored with the align helis, and having the opportunity to access a pre-release kit, i ordered one of these to have a play with. Charley has designed some good stuff over the years and if its anything like the G5 it should be great!
ill pop some pics up as i start building it, still need to purchase:
550mm blades
scorpion 4020-1390kv
scorpion 120amp esc
6s 5000mah Outrage packs
servos? maybe some JRs of some sort
jr gyro and the 8900 servo
6100 rx
bec of some sort
should go good :)
couple pics from the outrage site

Ive started the build. Looking quite nice. Found a few small issues that I wont even mention as the kits are being fixed now before they are officialy released. Packaging is nice, multiple boxes inside the main box.

The canopy is ugly IMO and the lightning bolts seem like a bite off the Align canopies. Hopefully there will be aftermarket canopies to fill in. Other than that the kit looks very nice and especially with the parts cost I think this heli will be a winner.
One other thing I don't care for from a design aspect, and this goes for any manufacturer, is the overuse of the company logo on parts. I mean just looking at the top of the head you can see 4 spots where it says Outrage. How many times do we need to see the name in a 3 inch square?

I like the Raptoresque method of rear motor mounting and pinion adjusting. It is so much easier to slide the whole mounting pad and motor and hold it steady while tightening. I also the battery tray which is smooth on top and not ribbed. Velcro has a good surface to stick to. I like the whole thing, canopy and all. I did ask when spare canopies will be available so I can paint one up and was told about 2 weeks after the release of the kit.
I have the carbon fiber pro model ordered but I think the silver glass kit might look better with the dark aluminum finish.
I cant wait to start the build. All of the head pieces have multiple holes so that it can be set up mild or wild. The manual is excellent and highly detailed. All hardware pieces are bagged seperately according to the build sequence and each piece has a nice drawing which makes it easy to identify.
I wish my kit would "rock up at the door" :D I have all of the components waiting for it.
The canopy fits a third standoff that is located on the bottom center to hold it on tightly.

Will A123s fit in the frame? That has been a topic of discussion. It looks like a 10S "brick" just might fit, based on the dimensions given. For sure they would fit if arranged "shotgun" style, but that's a PITA.

Interesting .... looks like it may be a bit on the heavy side. When you are finished with the build, it would be interesting to see what the all up weight is (without battery pack or radio gear) to compare to my favorite Swift 550SE.

just an update, we had a buildathon on sat night where we got the heli finished. Later we hopped into the bang bus and headed to a carpark at 1am to give it its maiden. Only had a charged 5s pack but still managed to do a few flips etc.
From the flights I had with it, the heli feels fantastic, cyclic is very fast with the default head settings.

How did it feel on 5S?What size pinion ?
Im going to fly mine on 5S packs w/ the 4020-1390 for a while as I have several of them and Im still just flying circuits and 8's etc. I have 11t, 12 and 13t pinions coming as I have no .7mod in the box.
Good job on the build, pics and flying.

The 550 was supposed to have shipped out to dealers yesterday. A few dealers in the US that are going to carry them are:
Esprit Models
RRE Models
Heli Direct
Hopefully the retailers will have units in stock and ready to fill orders by this coming Monday.

I have the 4020 1390 motor installed, currently only with an 11 tooth pinion. I will try a 13t next to get the headspeed up to about 2400 on 5s and see how hot things get 3ding. If your planing on general flying with maybe a few flips, 5s will work. But really this machine is designed for 6s 5000mah, someone who has a trex 600 can transplant everything minus motor into the 550, and have a better flying heli which is also easier on the packs.
there is a dealer page

Philpops,
I don't know if that's "your" Logo 500 in the comparison picture but I'm looking for a direct comparison of the two in their flight characteristics.
I was really leaning towards a Logo 500 as a replacement for my E550 Raptor this spring. Then, when I read about and saw the Outrage 550 I thought this could give the Logo a run for the money.
Please tell me what you can assuming you've flown both.
THANK YOU!!!

no, thats a mates logo 500. I guess with the outrage 550 you can set the head up how you want it to fly, with there being a number of options availible.
when I get home tonight I will weigh the heli without the batt, and you can add the weight of a pack of your choice.

Thanks for the weights guys. My E550 Raptor with 6s 5300mAh packs comes in at 3,587 grams.
I now see the Outrage 550 and the Logo 500 are both MUCH lighter than my Raptor.
Now the question is how do they compare in flight?
Has anyone flown the Outrage 550 who has also flown the Logo 500?
Thanks!

RCnGuy, unfortunately I don't own an Outrage 550 so I cannot give you any flight report. I do think it is a good looking heli and I hope someone in my circles gets one soon so I can fly it. I think the Outrage will bring more people into the big electrics due to it's good pricing unlike the Mikado. That said I already own a Logo and i'm not in the market for another machine in this size at the moment for myself.
