Hi all.

I'm starting to set up my 8 servo Escape. I don't have a specs sheet and was wondering what you guys were using for control throws particularily the v-tail. What are you using for v-tail horns?

I'm also having a hard time finding decent ball and socket links. The only ones I'm finding are real sloppy. Any good sources?

Thanks.

Where are you using the ball links? The tail already has them installed. Here is Jaro's own recommended setup from his web site. I use a bit more elevator/rudder throws and unlike the Europeans, I use 90 flaps. So do all the other open class gliders around here. On another note: after about two years of flying with trilerons (both coupled and not), I ripped out the trileron servos and mechanically coupled them to the ailerons (easy mod). I find that the performance has improved due to the lack of servo weight so far out on the wing. One of the best ships in the air.

Best,

Hey, thanks for the setup sheet!
I bought the plane used (and partly broben) so it didn't have all the horns installed. The v-tail didn't have horns (just the threaded holes) so I wasn't sure which way I'd like best to do it. I was going to install the ball links on the outboard ailerons but your idea sounds better.

I'd love to know how you did the trileron coupling.

Thanks!

Easy. Get a piece of thin piano wire say, .030 about 2 inches long and find a close fitting tube of plastic or brass. Tape both aileron and trileron flat then bend the piano wire in the middle so that it matches the dihedral angle as well as the trailing edge angle when held under the trailing edge at the juncture of the two surfaces. Cut the tubing so that it covers 1/2 of the wire. Now tape the bare wire half and the tube with wire inside, to the two surfaces at the trailing edge, but just underneath. Put the tubing on the trileron side because it will elevate the trileron slightly, just as Jaro specifies for neutral. Be sure to tape the tube back a bit so that it doesn't get in the way when the surfaces deflect down. That's it!
