Don (and other knowledgeable EDF folk),

I need some input.

BACKGROUND
I'm designing/building a scratchbuilt foamie - thread here (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=945682).

32" wingspan
full-fuselage, wedge body with swept wings
6mm depron construction
1 5mm CF rod running from wingtip-to-wingtip
desired - unlimited vertical
desired - hand-launch capable

NEVER designed anything for EDF. Absolutely zero EDF knowledge. I *have* done some due diligence, starting with the Phase 3 F-16 (as I wanted to use my 3S2100's for power). I've pretty much given up on that idea and resigned myself to 4S power.

QUESTIONS TO THE QUORUM
What single EDF system would you recommend to power this beast?
Are there other areas in this design that need CF re-inforcement?
Do I need solid balsa control surfaces?
Are the Hobbycity 9g servos sufficient?

Appreciate your input on this...thanks in advance.

Single or dual EDF? I was looking at your thread and the solid models had two fans in them. Cool looking plane by the way!

Thanks Don.

Larry Ross, one of the regulars in the scratchbuilt forums, wanted a dual EDF, so I'm working on a dual design for him. Me? I don't want the complexity of a dual setup.

So for the purpose of this thread, I'm only interested in a single EDF power system. I appreciate your willingness to provide some insight - I am certain this question has been asked a thousand times before.

If you want to go 4S I would say use my Wicked 4000 motor in the Alfa 5 blade fan. That setup in and Alfa jets is a 110+ mph setup. This being a little bigger it seems the speed will be a little less but you will have good power and speed.

Alpha 60/25? You got one lying around at your shop, maybe?

$40 - Pentium 40 ESC
$35 - Wicked 4000KV Inrunner
$50 - Alpha 60/25 EDF
$33 - Rhino 2350 4S1P 20C

Oh - how many ozs of thrust?

You have to get the motor with the standoff adpter or it will not fit into the Alfa housing. My guess on thrust is about 27 ounces range. The thrust depends on inlet size and shape, outlet size ans shape, length of ducting.
