i have a 44 inch tug and a 3.5 inch prop from prop shop
shoud i use a kort or not...i heard it could actuall hurt the performance of the tug...the prop blades are rounded at the ends and it has a 4 inch pitch
also do you think this prop is big enough for a tug to tow
the hull is simular to a douglas greg and wheigs 38 lbs

From what I understand, a set up like this, http://static.rcgroups.com/forums/attachments/1/5/8/6/9/4/t2077750-155-thumb-INS_0013.jpg (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=2077750) works better than a Kort. Big old prop with a pair of rudders.

It all depends on the style and type of tug. It will enhance certain capabilities, but negatively hurt others. What type hull are you doing?

A properly fitted (close fitting) Kort can increase the tug's towing performance and increase its bollard pull considerably over an 'ordinary' prop and rudder.

Round ended blades are not the best when it comes to fitting inside a kort, it will however still increase the bollard pull of the tug. You will find steering is also improved and possibly reversing.

I have matched Korts and props by very carefully trimming a larger prop down in the lathe to fit the Korts. You must take very light cuts or the prop blades fold up.
