Why doesn't it come with the Interlink controller or any other kind of
realflight interface? People will have major problems using it won't they?
Might as well struggle with a pirate copy FWIW IMO

Looks like the same version as mine Carl, where the cable terminates with
the serial interface (as opposed to the newer USB version)

People will have major problems using it won't they?

I think it'sll be a "plug and go" thing. If not, Lenny isn't dowing anyone
any favours, but it looks pukka to me.

Who said anything about it not having an interface? Of course it does!
The latest ones are sold with a USB simple transmitter which 99% of most
heli flyers don't use anyhow.
It has the original LPT1 interface that will plug into your radio.
This is NOT a pirate copy! All original :)

Sorry Len I wasn't for one second even thinking it wasn't genuine, it just
sounded from your Advert that there was no kind of interface included at
all! The LPT interface is fine, I thought you were offering software only.

Sorry for my ignorance

Not offenden in anyway. But I seriously thought there would be more peopler
using the dummybox.
I've heard that constantly training on a sim with your radio wears the
potensiometres. So I'm saving my real radio for the real flying.
But, is it true, that potensiometres get worn ?

I can give you some anecdotal "evidence" that they do Tor. A friend of mine
bought the Aerochopper sim MANY years ago (it came with a dummy Tx, but it
was a real Futaba unit without the transmitting bits and pieces).

He'd had it for a while and then rang me asking if it was possible to buy
JUST the dummy Tx, because he'd worn the pots out to the point where the Tx
was unusable. Having said that, fitting new pots isn't a big job, but I
prefer the dummy Tx idea for the "pt" reason.

I think this is one of the many 'old wives tales' that just gets started in
someone's imagination and then gets repeated and re-told so many times it
becomes 'fact'.

In several years on this news group and in all of my involvement in the
hobby, I have yet to hear first hand of a single worn out Tx pot EVER for
ANY reason . . . sim or otherwise.

My JR 8103 has served for CSM, AeroFly, G2 and several real models for years
and the pots are fine.

There is value in using your own Tx as 'feel' is definitely part of the
experience you are trying to simulate. It is also important to practice
setting up the myriad of mixes and curves needed absent a governor.

And finally . . . in the incredibly unlikely even that one could actually
'wear out' a pot in an actual Tx, it can't possibly be that big a deal to
replace them.

Martin Round
Feb 26, 2003, 12:22 PM
I had to change pots on an old Futaba 'Gold' Tx after many
years of use. I swapped the elevator servo 3 times before
I realized it was the transmitter pot that had worn out instead
of the usual servo feed-back pot.

Pots do wear - how many of you have old transistor radios with
crackly volume controls?

Also, many of our Txs rely on cables bending to take the signals
to the pot on one axis - I suppose these might fail eventually too.

Martin.

I've seen this happen twice (breaking cables). Both times in a FC28. This is
not the first place you start to look for failures, especially since they
don't fail at once but start to give little glitches long before giving up
all together.

That's 4 then Tim, coz I've had it happen twice. Once on the throttle and
then on the elevator control and like you say, it's not the first place you
(I) look when the glitching begins. Mine showed itself as a tail rotor
glitch and I "blamed" the gyro. After the gyro was checked out as Ok and the
problem was still there, I looked at the tail rotor servo.

I was losing all confidence in the radio 'til I sent the thing for service
and was told about the wire problem. Since the service, it's been perfect.

Don't know about pots wearing out but i've had to replace the cables to them on my ff7 tx.

The cables to the rudder and elevator pots seemed to have intermittent contact. This showed up as a severe rudder glitch when passing through a certain point on the throttle and similar for aileron and elevator.

Was a doddle to fix soldering in replacements from servo cable with a few strategic dabs of evo stick for strain relief.

That may be more of an age/corrosion problem than a wear problem.

If anything, lack of use contributes to that problem . . . in any case a
shot of contact cleaner usually clears it up.

I used to play in local rock bands at the beach and the pots on the amps, PA
and even the instruments would get 'scratchy' pretty quick regardlass of
whether they were 10 years old or brand new. Sometimes, just spinning them
back and forth a few times would settle them down enough to get through the
night.

Well, that's a different issue than the pots 'wearing out'.

Lots of things can go wrong with a Tx . . . no denying that . . . I was just
commenting on the pots . . . and I still maintain that using the Tx with a
sim is not going to 'wear them out' prematurely.

True, but unfortunately certain 'experts' can not distinguish between the
two, so the point is mute.

Sorry, I didn't consider that the skill of the pilot effects the service
life of a potentiometer.

Nice one Beav!

Anyhow, I'm glad Steve has explained to me how mistaken I was in replacing
my worn out transmitter pots. Funny how the glitching controls near
neutral were suddenly cured with the new pots. Perhaps I just imagined the
whole thing...

Martin.

"I swapped the elevator servo 3 times before
I realized it was the transmitter pot that had worn out instead
of the usual servo feed-back pot."

Only three times?

Well, you certainly fit the IQ profile of the average Beavis Cheer Leader.

> Perhaps I just imagined the whole thing...

What you are imagining is that giggling to your hero about someone in the
third person makes you look intelligent or funny.

Actually what it shows is that you haven't the balls to address a man
directly . . . which also fits the profile.

This group hasn't changed much either . . . nor you . . . nor your
groupies . . .

Except perhaps to have gotten worse . . if that was possible . .

Your reputation on this newsgroup gives your posts an authority, which
coming from a different source, they would not possess.
