I assume that you have got the Phoenix lead that came with it - the one with the black box in the middle - & that you have connected your transmitter to your pc using it?

Does your usb socket work for other usb devices?

What transmitter are you trying to use?

Yeah, you gotta have the official Phoenix USB interface for it to work - if you have then pop their support a mail: support@phoenix-sim.com

I have written to the phoenix support team and they say it must be something to do with the cable (BTW i am using the offical phoenix USB cable)

my transmitter is a futaba 6EX 2.4Ghz

The cable is not user serviceable. Given that Phoenix customer support is good & you are in the UK I am very surprised if they have not offered an exchange at a good price or free under warranty.

I assume that you have the right type of Futaba lead - which I think is is an extra.

yes i have the right type of lead and the USB slot works with other devices

If Phoenix think that it is a lead problem, & everything else looks OK, I can't see that you have any choice but to return it to them for testing and possible replacement.

Your message is one that I have never seen regardless of what I do, or do not, have connected

Let us know how you get on.

PS I never knew it was spelt "Sufflok" ;)

I have tryed 2 cables now and they both do the same thing. they won't start up because it says it couldn't detect a Phoenix USB cable

Does windows detect the interface when it's connected to the PC ? If it doesn't then chances are the PIC chip inside the interface is faulty, or the D+ and or D- wires have become damaged. If windows detects the interface, and it shows up under device manager or games controllers then the problem could be with the data stream from the TX or the PIC chip. IF you have your TX set to PPM mode, and you still get the same message, then i would return the device as suspected faulty

If I simply plug the lead into a usb slot on my computer BUT DO NOT connect the transmitter at all then I get the following message:

"please reconnect or switch on your transmitter"

The fact that you are getting a message about the usb cable suggests a lead fault.

MalC - I run Vista & I cannot see where my computer lists the Phoenix devise in devise manager & I don't have any games controllers listed at all. Phoenix runs perfectly for me so your suggestion about these might confuse the situation with a user less computer literate than yourself.

In Windows Vista, go to Start, Control Panel and click on the System and Maintenance link. Next, click on the System link and then on the left hand side under the Tasks pane, click on Device Manager. That will open a window that lists all of your computer's hardware.

I don't have Phoenix, so can't advise what / where the interface would be listed.

You need to understand what the interface does which will help diagnose possible causes. It takes the PPM signal stream from the TX (example from my JR TX shown below)
http://micro-heli.co.uk/scope.jpg

and converts this into data packets which get sent to the PC via the USB port. To do so the device needs to comply with the USB standards to befound by the PC as a HID device, and the way the data packets are sent (the protocol or encryption) needs to be decyphered by the software once it's checked to find the device is attached. IF you are not able to find the device then chances are your diagnostics are correct and the interface is faulty as it hasn't been installed correctly, and most of these devices don't require dedicated drivers.

The original poster is running XP.. and I take the view that if you own a PC you should be able to find how to check the basics out. Checking device manager for any conflicting hardware should be as basic for computer owners as a car owner knowing where to check the oil on their car.

MalC - I did not intend to be antagonistic. I was just concerned that many users are not fully computer literate.

I do know how to use my computer & the only way that I can find my Phoenix controller is to look at everything in device manager with it plugged in & then removed. It is far from obvious where it is & would be totally impossible for me if I did not have the advantage that it actually worked.

It is actually listed under "human interface devices" and as a "HID compliant devise" of which there are 8 with it connected & 7 without. There is no further detail.

Not very obviously anything to do with Phoenix I think you will agree.

My computer does recognise the cable as it makes that bleep sound when something is pluged in to the ports. I do go into the system and find that the controller is listed and will respond. (on v1.05j it doesn't display the message untill a few (1-2) minutes in and in that time, i get to VERY QUICKLY fly the default aircraft which is the pitts)

It might have helped if you had told us that it worked for a couple of minutes in your original post. I had been assuming that you couldn't get it to work at all which is what your post suggested.

Try uninstalling the version that you have & clean the registry and then reinstall - getting the latest 2.0p & see if that helps
