I was only thinking the same thing myself yesterday Phil. I know Mark
Christie has one or three, but as far as anyone else, I've not heard of a
single person using one.
VERY pretty, but they look like they'd be VERY expensive to repair too!

There is a guy called 'Synodontis' on RR that lives near London that flies
them. Apparently he has two and is getting a third ! According to him he
is still at the hovering stage of the learning curve !!! £6,000 well spent
if he gets a third :)
Still, each to his own. I'm sure he enjoys flying them. They are supposed
to be super stable and smooth. The sound of the helical gears is supposed
to be like a turbine
I know I want one, but £2,000 for an airframe is a little rich. Even from
the great CyberHeli they are $2,000

Weren't they DESIGNED as an "entry level for learners" machine?:-)

They helical gears were once a feature of Hirobo heli's, but they didn't
stand up to ANY abuse. Maybe the JR gears do, but who wants gear noise
anyway?

Yep, very expensive for a pod and boomer, and that chassis looks too nice to
damage:-)

Hey Carps, just looked at your site..
Have you found putting a header tank on your 3DNT makes any
difference?

Just to refrace that question,
What is the use of a header tank that is located behind the main tank?

Mark's got two, and so has Robert Mott now! One flight with one of Mark's was
enough to convince him! He's also switched to a Vigor for 3D work. I think a
couple of other F3C/Sportsmans flyers are thinking of switching too.....!

The most expensive bits are machined solid lumps of metal! I would imagine
they're pretty difficult to damage (hope we don't have to find out.... ;-)

There was a review of the Sylphide 90 in MHW December or january.. not sure
which.
They liked it :)

A "header tank" doesn't know where the main tank is, so I can't see it
making any difference where it is. It's behind the main tank on my Futura
for the simple reason that if I hold the nose high for an extended period,
the motor is starved of fuel.

I'm sure they're excellent flying machines Pete, but they're a touch on the
pricey side for the majority of sprot flyers (IMO of course).
I can see how they'd appeal to the competition lads though, if only from the
poseur POV:-)

Difficult maybe, but not improbable. Ok if you've got sponsorship or even
marginal support from the manufacturer, but for "Joe Bloggs Sportsflyer"
it's not a heli they'd "experiment" with flying new untried manoeuvres. I
would, but I'm a dickhead anyway, so it doesn't count:-)

Your quite right, of course, but its designed as a world class contest machine.
No doubt you can 3D it, but that's not what it is designed for....

See above! Its intended as an out & out serious contest tool! You wouldn't
enter a Ferrari F1 car in a banger race, would you? Its horses for courses....
For general sport flying or 3D work, I would recommend the Vigor everytime. Its
robust, not expensive, and very capable. However, if you're into serious
competition flying, or even just appreciate beautiful engineering, then the
Sylphide is worth a close look. (One guy at the 3D masters last year wanted to
buy one, just to put on his mantlepiece........!)

The biggest difference I have noticed so far is that I can run the tank
drier, and it is easier to fill.
I am having a bit of a problem at the moment with the engine quitting. It
happens if I fly around, and land for a minute or so. Next time I spool up
the engine stops : (
I thought it might be the Uniflow I tried, so I took that off and fitted the
header.
To be honest, I'm beginning to regret chosing the Webra instead of the
seemingly hassle free OS set-up. The Webra is a lot more fiddly - very
powerful, but fiddly.

I thought as much... I guess it might help when you've got the nose
pointing down a lot...

Haven;t had that myself.

Mine seems to have been ok so far.. I got it run in by CyberHeli as
they seem to do a good job of that.
I'm still fiddling with plugs and nitro % to find which is best.
