Hi all,
I assembled my high start this afternoon. I have 100' of hose monster 3 meter tubing and I have 500' of fluorescent pink braided mason line. I can split the 100' of tubing if desired ( it came with nice connectors) and I bought a set of connector's for the line if I need to reduce it. It is wound on one of those orange real thingys, I found one for $2.00 ata sale.( I did de-bur it well). I will take a tape measure with me the first time I use it to make length corrections.
I have no idea what lengths are ideal. I will be flying a Big Bird XL and a Bubble Dancer. I will find fields to suit the high start not the other way around.
Thanks in advance,

On my 100ft of 3m hosemonster I run about 250 foot of line due to field length restrictions and pull it back about 40 paces. This will see the line plus the rubber in the air with enough left over for a bit of a zoom with my Bubble Dancer in no wind so there isn't any point pulling it back any further.
I'd like to stretch it's legs with 500 foot of line and 80-100 paces of stretch but I'd need need a much bigger field. With a slight headwind I think the length of line would be almost unlimited with the BD as it will just about kite itself up.
I've also use 350 foot of line and it plays with that as well.
I'm starting to come to the conclussion with my BD now that if you can't get away from a 250 foot launch you shouldn't be out flying it.

The typical dimensions for any high start are a length of tubing that is 13% of the length of your field and a length of line that is 45% of the length of your field. The rationale for these proportions is reviewed at
http://charlesriverrc.org/articles/design/dickwilliamson_histartphysics.htm
The proportions are essentially independent of the details of your plane, but the cross section of the tubing needs to be matched to your plane.

Wow,
I love that site. Some how I had not read that article yet. CRRC(dot)org
has been on my favorite list for a while.
So I will have some conections in the line to adapt to wind conditions.

Page 4 of the Hosemonster thread has a post from Mark Mech with his recommendations for hi-start lengths and line......it was posted a couple days after you last did.
here is the link (http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=935893&page=4)
Hope this helps. You can always talk to Mark, he'll tell you anything knows.

I use 40 lb test fishing mono fishing line, a whole lot less weight to haul up. It works fine with my 173" Airtronics Super Esprit. You get a little extra umf from the mono too.

The more wind, the more line you can use, at least if there's room.
I have used 50 lb squidding line (braided nylon) which is exceptionally durable and quite light. (Maybe I just bought a magic piece of it 15 or 20 years ago, because I haven't needed another and it's outlasted maybe 3 replacements of the high start rubber.)

Oz, ya got that rubber thingy ready to go, lets go fly, now that the dang time has changed i wont be able to get out after work but theres always Sat and Sun. Thers a place just outsde of Buffalo and its where the store fixture place is at, he's considering letting us fly and theres plaenty of room for your high start or a winch.

FWIW, I use 100' of Hose Monster 4 meter unlimited rubber and 300' of the fluorescent plumbers line. I stretch it out about all I can manage (about 120 paces or so) and it kicks the gliders up pretty well - I'm not the biggest guy and it's amazing it doesn't take me with it. I have an extra length of line to use if the launch area is large enough to stand it.

sjgoulet,
Hi. yep, the Hose Monster 3 meter is ready. I still need to cover the &@^#
glider but I will jump on it asap. I am not sure about this week end and work yet, but it is supposed to be nice. Worked till 10 pm today. I got my pod and V mounts today for the Bubble Dancer from Bud Elder. He does REALLY nice work.

I use 100 feet of tubing, and 400 feet of braided nylon tow line, and pull it baclk 100 to 120 paces. Does a good job.
