FAI has a whole class of records for autonomous models now, class F8. The only two records documented are Maynard Hill's Atlantic crossing flight in 2003, piston powered duration and piston powered straight line distance (http://records.fai.org/models/current.asp?id=384). There are 35 F8 classes, so 33 are completely blank.
I'm considering making a few attempts next year. What are the logistics of making such an attempt in the US today? Duration and distance in a closed course would probably be the easiest to attempt with the least worry. Maybe a Notam with the FAA? Altitude and distance in a straight line would be toughest as this gets into airspace issues.
Has anyone looked into it?
