Hello guys,

My name is Xavier (I am french and sometimes I have some hard time to explain myself in english for some specific question) and this is the first time I post on this part of the forum. I used to hang out on the boat sections but as there is nothing for electronic in that part of the forum, I decide to come down here for my specific electronic questions.

I plan to build an esc, a foghorn and diesel sound generator for my next project. I have some experience in soldering (much more in brazing), some old experience from school to do PCB and some equipment here. So far I found in my magazine collection and online some interesting electronic device that can be home made but each time I try to make the material list there is always one component unavailable anywhere  So far I have checkout allelectronic.com and alliedelec.com . You may have some other company that can interest me ?

So as I said, I am looking to complete some project without to much knowledge and one of my first problem so far is to find some transistor called :

BC 337
BD 437

Everywhere I looked they are not available, I only found them on ebay for a very expensive price making the project not worth it :(

Maybe you guys have an idea where I can find them ?

have fun

Xavier

Have you tried to cross reference these parts or any you can't get locally?

From the data sheets you can get the information to easily select a different device for replacement if necessary. For example, the BC337 is an audio device/switch. Just about any silicon NPN transistor with the appropriate voltage/current rating/gain will replace it.

Thanks for the answer.

When I said that I was a newbie, I was honest and you have already kinda lost me....

So when I was looking for these two transistor, I found there Data sheet and I try to locate a similar one with no luck.

Now using your website, when I type BC 337 I've got this info :

NTE123AP Rotate device 180 degrees to conform with original lead configuration

Now when I goes to http://www.alliedelec.com/ and search NTE 123 AP here is what I found (http://www.alliedelec.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?SKU=9357002&MPN=NTE123AP-5&R=9357002&SEARCH=9357002&DESC=NTE123AP-5)

Does that mean that I can order this transistor and use like a BC 337 ?

What does the "Rotate device 180 degrees to conform with original lead configuration" means ?

Thanks in advance for more explication ?

:)

A quick check at Allied shows that the BC337 is available there, http://www.alliedelec.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?SKU=431-0466
Allied doesn't have the BD437 though.

However, both of those transistors are available at...
www.digikey.com
www.mouser.com
www.newark.com
www.jameco.com

Any of these places are great sources for electronic components, etc.

Xavier,

The BC337 is a general purpose NPN, you should be able to substitute a 2N3904, which you can find almost anywhere.

Well I said that I was a newbie, I was searching for BC 337 and not BC337 :censored:

Ahhh...that's also gotten me more times than I care to say. :)
