Hey you steam guys im looking into getting a steam engine plant to put into a tug "A very large tug" 54"x13" That im starting to scratch build.
I would like to know:

1) What type do you guys like the best? "chedder or" ?
2) What brand do you like best? "Saito or"?
3) Where is the best place to buy one from?

Thanks for you help,
Jeff

Cheddar is now produced by Stuart, who were famous for their bigger engines.

Wanna keep your dollars in the US of A? Look at Monahan Steam Models.

I met the folks from Monahan Steam Models at the SFMYC's Wooden Boats on Parade event a couple of weeks ago where they had their power plants and some boats on display; I am a convert!

Their engines are so beautiful (before I was a Stuart kinda’ guy). I would definitely go with a Monahan Steamer over a Cheddar/Stuart when the size & scale are right.

They are sizable units... but Monahan is also coming out with a line of oscillators, see their web site.

Steam power is a bit on the pricey side, but look at the precision that you'll be getting---. :)

I'd like one of these myself, but it'd make some serious inroads into my beer budget---. :o

Longbike, talk to Nick Monahan directly, especially for your large tug. He'll be extremely honest with you about the size of his various offerings and their application to your build.

Agreed, Monahan Steam engines and boilers are works of art.

Thanks guys, for your help!

Man those Monahan's are beautiful and yes very pricey! WOW!!
I will talk to him and see which unit to go with. But im going to have to build a few more kits for clients to get that kinda money up for one.

Thanks guys
Jeff
