Very nice..... You will have to let us know how it does, but well I suspect. Love my Bronco...

Thank you all very much for the well wishes. I'm certain it will fly at least as well as the G38 powered version but with 1/2 again the power. It is within 1 pound of the weight and everything else is equal.

Here are a couple of shots of my KMP Bronco. The airframe was stripped, lighting holes filled or the whole surface was sandind down and reskinned with 1/16 balsa. I then glassed it and painted with Auto paint, made all new retract mounts for the Centry Jet retracts. The power comes from 2 Power 110 Eflites , Castle Creations Phoenix HV85's with PolyQeust 2s2p 5000 per side spining 2 blade 17/10 APC or 3 blade 16/10 MAS. Although there was a lot of work done to this ARF I feel I started with good bones to all of these mods to get the airframe to this point. I'm now working on th cockpit with hopes of having it ready for the "09" season. Anymore Big Broncos out there...Don

Rich,
Just a thought. I think you should prop down a little to get the max watts (and Amps) more in-line with what that motor can handle reliably. Hacker shows 2600 watts max for the A60 16L and even though we all push our electrics, I try and design them in-line with recommended limits.
My thought is the large props are killing motor efficiency as the motors are trying to turn closer to 7,300 RPM,s. If you prop down a little to allow the motor to work more efficiently, you may still get the power you have now as the extra RPM's will make up for the smaller prop size 21 x 14 is pretty aggressive)...

Jack,
A 21x14 should take about 2800 W to spin at 6300 RPM. If Rich is pulling 3300W, then motor/ESC efficiency would be around 85%. The Hacker's probably never going to get much more efficient than that.
So by all means prop it down if heat becomes an issue, but probabaly not for efficiency reasons alone.

I'll try to get some flight shots posted soon. Intial test flight was last Sunday, 6 1/2 minutes plus taxi/run-up used 3000 mAh of 5200 mAh packs. Performance was sparkling; blows the doors off the G-38 powered version. Couple more test flights planned for this Sunday after which I'll add some exterior goodies like a centerline tank and pylon-mounted AIM-9's. Got some fair video, hope to get more this weekend. Overall, I love it!!

Thanks a lot, Chris. Wish you were local to see it also. Power system works flawlessly, a little throttle discipline will help the duration, new Thunder Power packs are outstanding! I'm really enjoying this one!

Regarding the comments about propping down,.. i run the A60L's at well over 4Kw with no issue. Have been doing that for quite some time. They have proven to be bulletproof there, and withstand 5+KW setups for 3D if proper throttle is utilized. The 2600 watt rating that is published is very conservative. Rich's setups at 3300 watts don't even get the motors heated, as they are just loafing around at that low power level. that being said,. I spoke with him a few days ago and one thought is to go to smaller props, not due to motor needs, just in order to increase duration because it's well over-powered now. I think the "M" series motors would have been more than adequate, as I know of them being ran in the mid 3KW range also,.. but the L provides a slightly lower KV so a larger, more efficient prop can be used.

Very interesting Rich.. I´ve been looking at doing something around 100" myself but precision scale for competition. How close is your Bronco to scale?

Doug,
The outline is right on to the North American supplied drawings I used as a basis for the design. The airfoil is different but not an issue. The cross sections are close but I "cheated" a little to make it a bit easier to build. The biggest deviation is the landing gear. The main gear struts are functional but simplified. They look just fine and far less machining-intensive than replicating the mechanics and geometry of the full scale OV-10. Sierra Precision made the gear and did a great job.

Well done Rich ! Have you heard about the guy in the uk ( or germany ? ) building a massive Bronco ? Think its like 50% scale..... Saw it in RC&M magazing a few month back
