This is a WARNING to anyone shopping online.

AVOID discountrcparts.com at all costs!
They will part you with your money and NOT send any merchandse.

My experience was that after several weeks passed, I looked for their
contact info and Whoa! No phone number!! I sent many emails.. none
were answered. I did a WHOIS, and the admin and tech contact phone
numbers are non-working. The address is bogus too.

I'm out $200. Lesson learned.

This has been a public service announcement

You contacted your credit card company, right? Any decent card offers
100% fraud protection on internet purchases. You get your money back
and a huge corporate giant can deal with the dirtbags.

I see they have a "phone orders" section but don't list a phone
number...amazing. Better yet their order menu takes a credit card
number through a non-secure page. And that page sends out cookies
that bring up a security flag on my browser.

My CC was a checking account, so it doesn't carry the normal
anti-fraud protection. The Better Business Bureau must have contacted
them today, because they finally sent me email this evening. They saw
it as a big joke, not as I do, which is credit card fraud. Their tone
was junenile, with "LOL", etc., so I guess their a bunch of Texas
hicks -- I don't understand why anybody would deal with them. They
think they won their cute game, but now with black marks at the BBB
and FTC (and this thread) I'd say their dumb and stupid. Best avoid
them.

Okay, here's the deal. I used a VISA attached to a checking account
(I keep a small balance for online purchases). Because of this, I
don't have the normal anti-fraud protections. So, what I've learned
is to use a normal CC account.

In as far as discountrcparts is concerned, they feel that they have no
obligation to answer customers inquiries such as mine which was to
tune of "Hello, haven't seen my order in the mail yet... what up with
it?" So, after a few emails and finding that their WHOIS info was
stale, my emails took on a more confrontational tone. In turn, they
must have made a game of "let's see how irate this customer will get
if we don't answer him." Well, having to resort to calling my bank,
VISA, and directory assistance to get their new number... I got very
irate.

Only after my submitting a complaint to BBB did they decided it might
be in their best interest to respond (mind you, this is 30 days after
my original order was placed).

And to top it off they still see no fault in their own actions. Their
side of the story is "hey, if you had just waited a little longer..."
and "we sent you a mail..." (they did not). So they seem to think
they won some silly game, when in reality they wound up with
complaints at the Better Business Bureau and Federal Trade Commission
(and my coments here). They also seem to think that WHOIS is for some
purpose other than tracking down owner/admins of domains, and said
they'd be seeking 'sanctions' against me. Ha. These guys really are a
joke. The tone of their email was very juvenile -- they're obviously
just a group of spoiled brat kids, and I don't see why anyone would
deal with them over a reputable dealer like Tower (I would have saved
maybe $5 -- hardly worth the hassle they put me through -- oh, and I
still haven't been reimbursed)

Moral of this story: Avoid discountrcparts.com

We have also had a problem with them. No communication, no product.
Finally got them to acknowledge that they owe us a refund. We'll see if we
actually gie it.
I would avoid them.

For $200 I'd take a road trip :)

Seeking sanctions....Now that's funny :) You need to set up a web
page telling your whole side of the story with all emails reprinted.
Also post all their contact information.

Good luck. I hope they make good on the deal one way or the other.

Watch the TEXAS slurs. There are some bad ass R/C people here that won't
take to kindly to that kind of talk. Not everyone in TEXAS is a hick!

Ain't it the truth.
Why... even the toilet paper doesn't work down there... *It don't take shit
offa nobody.* ;-)
All kidding aside, I have found that Texas has a VERY active R/C community.
I take a business trip to Texas once a year (Austin & San Antonio). On the
wekends there are organized races all over the place. At each and every one I
have attended, the folks there are quick to welcome me with a friendly smile,
an extended hand, and are glad to share tips and information. I have often been
invited to bring my cars down (next trip) to join in. (Too bad that these days
it's hard enough to fly with your toothbrush and your underwear... let aone a
bag full of nitro RC gear)
On some occasions, drivers have even offered to let me run their cars around
the track.
I only WISH there were as many RC clubs and organized races here in Michigan.
You Texas RC guys are great.

They are true, and well-deserved.

For the most part... R/C'ers in general are pretty cool.

Usually late April or early May. Not sure yet when we're makin' the trip this
year.

I have been to a few of those. I race 1/10th scale stadium trucks, so the dirt
track would be of interest to me.
I spent the entire afternoon at the Super-K one weekend watching those
guys run the drag races. I had never seen RC drag racing, so I was fascinated
and amazed.
They used to set up a nice long road course at that Super-K parking lot. I
got a chance to run my friend's Serpent on that track for a few laps... VERY
fast (no crashes, honest).
I was all-smiles when that thing hit 2nd gear about 1/3 down the back
straight. Glad his brakes were working ;-)

>They are fixing to close that store, so the

That's a shame... the Super-K is right near where we usually stay.
Please keep me updated on this info... I will want to check out the new site.

>Why not find someone you can trust and ship in your cars if you are serious
>about racing a few of us Texans?

Not a bad idea, but kind of a hassle.
I am usually working most of the time I'm there.
This year, I would like to schedule a few extra days for a chance to get
some track-time.

>Lots of hobby shops here to buy fuel and supplies.

Yeah... you guys have quite a network of hobby shops down there.
It must be great to be able to drive a couple miles to get anything you want in
the way of parts and supplies.
The hobby shops around here are few and far apart, and they always seem to be
stocked with everything EXCEPT what I need at the time.

Hey, I'm in SA. Usually run at Toys 4 Big Boys. Where are the local High
school tracks? Spent yesterday at the old Albertson's cause the track was a
pond.

Mark,

T4BB seem to be funny about when they let folks run. I had an experience
with that back in the fall after they opened the track. I know the store
you are talking about, did you come off the table top by the loading dock
and hit the pond there? I did in the fall of '02 and about drowned the
thing! After the piss off attitude of the fall, I haven't been back to run
on the dirt track, but I am waiting for a dry weekend to give it one last
try. I thought the whole idea behind off road r/c was to have fun come rain
or shine, but I guess that the little bit of effort they made for that track
is not worth a little bit of maintenance? Maybe there would be a few ruts
and such, but if they weren't being buttheads, regular folks would probably
help out on the track maintenance so it would be there for all to enjoy.

Good luck on getting your money back. I checked their sire and could not
find a listing for a physical address or phone number. In my opinion this
should send up a big flag of a company not to do business with.

Assuming that someone is a crook by the way they write an email is
ridiculous.

Try these folks for help in the future http://www.refundcompany.com -They
got $5k back for me from a Canadian that decided to keep my money and not
ship the goods.

Try to refrain from slandering a business just because things didn't go your
way. Ask about a reputation of a business if there are no testimonials (with
valid contact info) on their web site.

And finally, prior to sending money, make sure you have 100% of valid
contact information.

Use common sense or the Internet will put you on your face.

still haven't been reimbursed)

I tried contacting them to see if they would give me any info that would be
useful to you guys and I can tell just by my emails back and forth with
these guys that they are dishonest. Chect out the excuses they gave me when
I asked for a number to contact them to place an order. No, I wasn't really
going to order something I was just checking them out.

Latest email:
In some regards you are correct. We do have a publically listed phone
number, but we are grossly understaffed in reference to attending to it.
Factor in all the wasted calls ( people who order in the middle of the
night, pick ground shipping and call 12 hrs later wanting to know where it
is, tech help, etc) and the lines are clogged 24/7. We handle 98% of all
problems through email;it not only allows us handle multiple problems at
once it also lets us operate without having to add a 20 line phone bank.

We are currently in the middle of a phone system upgrade. I could give you
the phone number but you'll not get a live person. That's why we temporarily
removed it from the site to avoid confusion.

I'm a sys admin so I'm well aware of encryption technology and you are
absolutly correct about your statement regarding you're only as strong as
your weakest link. I'm also aware that a company that does not have phone
numbers available for orders or questions can be difficult to get ahold of
in certain circumstances. You have been very speedy in your responses so in
this case it does not apply.

*lol*

you miss the big picture my little friend.....

No one has to tap your little phone ( don't be too secure that it can't
be done). You forget you're calling us too and a chain is only as strong as
it's weakest link. Get the picture?

You could be calling from the white house and be as secured as you
please...all it would take was someone tapping our end to get the card
number. My entire point was that people are not well informed and believe
all the media hype about people stealing credit cards online. On line SSL is
safer than a phone line...period.

Good luck to you now.

Thanks for your response but the likely hood my phone is tapped is
none since I have no home phone I use a digital cellular for all my calls
and that signal is encrypted. Good Luck.

Ali,
I'm afraid that our shopping cart is the only way to order at this
moment. You can take comfort in the following two things:

1) Our shopping system uses one of the highest levels of secured
encryption there is.
2) Giving your credit card number out over an open phone line is 100
times less secure than doing the same thing on the web.

phone lines can be tapped by people with a junior high education;
the same cannot be said about hacking into a secured server.

Tell them you went to order but when it came time to type in your CC
number you didn't notice any SSL indicator on your browser :)

Yessiree, Bob!

You're right!:

1 - Don't forget to asses a level of your own trust of a vendor before
you dive in, such as seeking feedback in places like Usenet News;
checking to be sure they provide contact info (and perhaps trying to
reach them beforehand to ask a question); take a hard look at their
site (for example, someone on a BB pointewd out that
discountrcparts.com doesn't use a secure order form); etc.

2 - Use a form of payment that provides anti-fraud services.

I admit that I did none of the things. And I was lucky -- today I
received a refund in the form of a USPS money order.

Okay, so what did I learn? Well, the two items above... and...

1 - DiscountRCParts.com is a rinky-dink outfit, run by people who
don't care about their customers. E.g. if they don't have something in
stock and it will realistically take a month to buy it from someone
else and turn it around to the customer... tough crap, they can wait.
If the customer has a question, and is impatient, then screw them --
if they don't like the way we runs thing then bugger off!

2 - DiscountRCParts.com doesn't understand that when they draw funds
through a VISA terminal transactiuon then they are bound buy US
commerce rules and restrictions. They think that denying
communications between themselves and a customer is acceptable.
They're wrong.

3 - DiscountRCParts.com sucks, and I'll take my business elsewhere.
