View Full Version : Novak Receivers in Electric cars/trucks.

Has anyone had any problems when using a Novak Receiver in an electric car
or truck? About 5-6 years ago I bought about 3 75 mHz AM receivers and got
out of the RC business for a while. Well, being back into it now for the
past 3 years I've noticed a problem. For some reason if I get more then 50
feet or less away, it will start to glitch and go all over the place. This
happens no matter where I put the receiver in the vehicle or which
channel/transmitter combination I use. All of the radios have been Fatback
by the way. Now if I switch the receiver out for the Futaba one....it will
work just fine without glitching, unless I do happen to get too far out.
But, nonetheless, they work great. I've done this with all 3 receivers with
the same results and was wondering if anyone else has experienced similar
problems. I do however use Novak speed controls without any problems.
Also, the capacitors are on the motors of the vehicles as well.
Like I said, the Futaba receivers work just fine. I could understand another
problem if the Futaba receivers were doing something similar, but they are
not. These receivers would be way out of warranty now, it's just strange
that they act like this.

I never had ANY luck, with their older 75 am receivers.
glitch city. And I tried all of the 'tricks' that are supposed
to suppress that problem..
Of the guys that I race with, nobody else did either.
Now the newer fm ones, are a different story, those work fine.

Thanks Dan, I thought it might have just been me. I too have tried
everything to get rid of the problem with no satisfaction. You get about
20-50 feet out and BAM!!!! Glitch city and I mean glitch
city.....everything just goes haywire.

depending on your vehicle, i found i had to mount my old AM novak on the
shock tower to get a better reception. Also the older AM ones were very
picky and you had to make sure you had all of your motor capacitors
installed correctly. The local racers who had graphite chasis's had issues
w/ Novaks mostly. One trick they used was to wrap tin foil i think around
the receiver. I only owned one novak am 75MHz receiver...
as for FM, i have Novak, Tekin, and Airtonics and never had a problem w/ ANY
of them. Although I usually tend to stick w/ stock manufacturer replacement
receivers if given the choice.
